We drove down to a very busy area of the lake where houseboats abutted against each other, and the water is wider, and boarded two super comfortable gondola-style boats called Shikaras - fitted out with soft cushions and curtains. this was travelling in style! We were supposed to go to the Shiva temple on top of Shankaracharya Hill, but once on the bus the driver told Ashraf that buses were not allowed on the windy hill road leading to the monastery. This wood timber mosque is adorned with Papier-mâché (French for "chewed paper"). The walls and ceilings are covered with it and decoratively painted in beautiful color combinations.
