We headed off to Colonia del Sacramento for a night en route to Argentina and boy were we glad we stopped off here. What a gorgeous, picturesque little town filled with historical, cobblestone streets and beautiful buildings in every direction. We also finally got our first Uruguayan steak (best steak we've ever eaten in our lives to date!) and had some delish white sangria, known as Clerico. Next stop: Argentina = Spanish school, glaciers and more steak. Bring it on ...

The terrace overlooking the vineyard was the perfect place to sip our wines with a bowl of stuffed olives as the sun slipped slowly away behind the trees. We are far enough south to enjoy a proper slow dusk, and although on the same longitude as parts of Eastern North America that are 5 hours behind GMT, Uruguay is currently only two hours behind London ...

... that have joined us from Bolivia are undergoing sticker shock in food prices while we are finding things a bit cheaper (~300 Uruguayan pesos /person for lunch, 25 pesos/USD). After lunch we wandered the old city, down the street of sighs, past the lighthouse and out to the point. You can imagine how if it was a nice day this area would be picturesque, however with the wind it's chilly and the river has been churned into ...
