    ... spotted a whale spouting and several magellan penguins.. We waited 2 hours to spot Chiloe, which we did just as the sun set, and went through the narrow passage that went between Chiloe and the mainland, just as the light disappeared.
    Tonight's dinner included a 'chocolate fountain' for dessert, with lots of different fruit & marshmallows for coating. One of our favourite waiters was in-charge.

    ... the clear, crystal waters of the lakes and the sea around. It competes with Norway as to which is the greater exporter of salmon. We had a 4 hour coach tour which took us inland to Puerto Varas and we enjoyed walking by Chile's largest lake.     Back to a soggy Mark. Having ridden extra the night before, I now had a really short day of about 60k and a ferry into Puerto Montt and the end of the Carretera Austral. I polished these off pretty easily, fueled by breakfast, then a stop for 6 of the best empanadas I have ever had, then a final stop for a selection of cake.     ... but the tour was pretty awful. It only cost us $30 apiece instead of the $80 apiece we would have paid the company we thought we had hired. So off we went. Our original tour was to include lunch, so we did not eat lunch before we left the ship, while everyone else in the group had eaten.
