... very dry this summer and the water was quite low - it must be spectacular with lots of water.

Stopped for lunch at a restaurant near Ensenada - soup, salmon and semolina pudding - very nice (included in tour). There were at least 3 bus loads there at the same time. Back to a soggy Mark. Having ridden extra the night before, I now had a really short day of about 60k and a ferry into Puerto Montt and the end of the Carretera Austral. ... singing "Nearer My God To Thee" and Allen thinks he’s king of the world, and I swear I hear Celine Dion wafting through the ship. In truth, the red smear could be blood, since according to one our travel pals who did the overland Patagonia trip, sea lions give birth on bergs. OK….whatever the smear is, we decide not to worry about it as the ship continues its slow movement through the ice field, which gets heavier the closer we get to ...

I think we'll be quite sad to leave the boat tomorrow. It sort of seems like the norm now to look out the window and see a lot of sea and little islands of mountains and trees and it *almost* feels normal to need to prop yourself up against the wall when you have a shower! We're eating surprisingly well, perhaps better than before we were on the boat! We have two hot meals a day and a lot of salad and fruit, with just ...
