Sunday 8th June

Feliz Cumpleaņos a mi and its a warm 28 degree day! Nursing a sangria hangover we have a delicious cooked breakfast before jumping on the 9am bus from Playa Bastian to the inland Teguise markets - the oldest in Lanzarote. Here we find 100's of stalls selling everything from toe rings and cactus muffins to 'genuine' fake handbags. After half an hour we've seen most of it but have another 2.5 ...

... Today we're catching the brand spanking new Edinburgh trams to the airport! What an experience, they are so fast and flash and run almost door-to-door for us. Kev is convinced that the tram bells sounds like the McDonalds beeping timers, and talks about how hungry he is the whole way!

After a 4.5 hours, we have survived the Ryan Air flight and land in the volcanic island that is Lanzarote. It is far from pretty, but an incredible landscape to look over, almost lunar like. ...

... hat and bright pants with no luck. ****. Finally while walking it again I ran into Derrick's parents! Yes people I know!!! I stayed with them and we saw Dave pass by on his second lap and Derrick on his first. Then with 90 minutes to kill before we saw them again we grabbed a bite to eat and escaped the sun. Start off with Ryanair flight to Madrid, was a bit worried about baggage as usual, but actually weighed in at exactly 15 kg, so no problem.
Next was a Turkish airlines flight via Istanbul to Beijing. Transit in Istanbul a bit frantic, the airport is enormous and the lines long, but eventually got to the boarding gate and off we were on the long overnight flight to Beijing

... dark brown, old volcanoes scattered the landscape and would likely have made a good day trip.

Letting out the anchor in a great cove with crystal clear waters we made our plans to spend two hours on this volcanic rock. We decided to swim to shore with our drybags and check out what looked like a bustling beach. Needless to say we had our James Bond moment ...
