    Short note: We apologise in advance for the length of this blog, but it is difficult to put our experience in Colombia into such a small space.

    As we finally arrived into Colombia, we were swarmed by rival bus companies and women with chicken. We managed to dodgily exchange our Venezuelan money behind closed doors with a man who then negotiated a cheaper bus price on our behalf.

    ... throwing down marble sized chunks of hail! Fortunately I was under cover by the time it was bad but I did feel a little sorry for the people on the mountain!

    Although it sounds awful – it was actually pretty fun and a pretty wierd experience! My plan was to climb a few mountains on a 3 day acclimatisation programme before attempting to summit Cotopaxi (5,800m) or Chimborazo (6,300m) but the unpredictability of the weather (it is winter now!) has unfortunately ...

    ... beef :) Anyway by the time we finished dinner we could no longer find any evidence of a night bus to Pasto (of course we didn't book in advance). As it happened though, a couple girls from our hostel were heading to Ipiales, which is the main border crossing with Ecuador, so we shared a cab to the bus terminal with them and booked the 12 hour bus to Ipiales.
