Leaving relaxing Salento behind we took a minibus (brand new Mercedes van) for 6 hours to Popayan. Popayan is a small colonial town which is where we would be celebrating New Years. We couldn't be bothered with the hype of New Year so just wanted a nice local place where we could see the new year in in local style. Many travellers would be heading to the salsa capital Cali for the festivities but instead we would be heading there just after :-)

Each business will have a different name but they will run each business out of a single office building on site and the farm will be 4 times the legal limit. ... Anyway, apparently Colombia was all over the news back home for loads of dodgy stuff on (probably about elections and protests as they usually are). Luckily I’d paid zero attention to anything that’s not Facebook or the REALLY important things such as Leeds United. So yeh, as I moved through the country I was 100% oblivious to all the things going on and only found out from travellers in Ecuador talking about road bombings and armed robberies on exactly ...

... 7pm we have a (free) salsa lessons, 8 blokes and 8 girls in a hot and sweaty room with one wall entirely mirrored. Cali is the capital of salsa. I also heard it has the world's most beautiful women, but I have to disagree. In the evening we pile in 5 to a minicab and visit Tin Tin Deo, a salsa dancing bar. There is a good mix of ages and some excellent dancers. The best male dancer is an unassuming bloke of 56" well into his 60s. I ...
