Accommodation in Toledo was hard to get (at a reasonable price) and that, combined with its close proximity to Madrid and our keen interest in Merida and Caceres meant a visit was always going to be a last minute decision. Fortunately we decided to 'duck in' and have a wander.
The archway to the city was impressive and, as you passed beneath it into the old city you really knew it was the start of something special.....a lovely old town with ...

... lot of puddles but soft ground and grass to walk on. A good morning from some young calves and the sight of a cow with the donger missing in her bell. Must be heaven for her. Lots of cows, horses and sheep where large leather collars with big cow bells. They never cease to ding as the animals move. Makes it easy for the farmer to find, but can you imagine the incessant ringing if that was tied to you. Would have to eventually lose hearing. I enjoyed seeing this cow without ...

... tonight is a working monastery. We knew it was an old nunnery but didn't know it was now a monastery. Got there 2 1/2 hours before they would allow us in (freaking out of bed early people) but let us put our packs down there and head for the nearest bar. Says they have wifi but it's a load of crock. Never mind, we have limited data so use that for the basics. Then off to check in for 1pm and find all the others from last night there. The hostelaria motions us ...
