... I'll chalk it up to food poisoning mixed with alcohol ;) I didn't find this out until the next morning, but Josh, who on the walk home told me he bought a bunch of cocaine, apparently went wild at the hostel when he came home (while I was in la-la land in the bathroom) and started screaming and fighting people (I assume due to the cocaine). He was asked to leave by the owner, Jairo, the next day. Interesting night for ...

Day 119: Cali, Colombia

Yesterday, I woke up surprisingly late considering I sleepy to sleep so early. I got about 11 hours of sleep! The first order of business was to go find this hostel Jan and I had heard about that is less than half the price of the one we were at. Apparently, it's a fake hostel that isn't really registered and therefore doesn't pay taxes so it's much cheaper. We sampled the night life, perfected our dance skills, and made friends with a group of university students, in particular their amazing teacher. All the books tell you not to cross at night and preferably not by foot as there is a notoriously dangerous bridge that separates the Ecuadorian & Colombian borders. However, the only private buses we could find operated at night so we were left with little choice. We end ...

... as it was on my route and I gave him a lift anyway. I went straight to Casa Kiwi hostel, which is great but has a terrible booking system and they don’t even know how many nights people are staying for! It is literally a one in, one out system so they have no idea whether you can stay or not until 12pm each day! I know that Bal and James would have a field day improving this process (as would anyone with common sense) but I asked a few people at breakfast if they were ...
