After finding the Plaza Mayor we followed the city walls around in the direction of Alcazar - a palace built on a point at the edge of the town. Fortunately this was open and so we explored the castle and learned about some of the its colourful history. The castle looks amazing ...

On May 5th, my final day in Madrid, I did a day long excursion to the city of Segovia. Segovia is another ancient Spanish city. Its general theme was religion, religion, relgion. Hello, everyone! Chris and I are in Gimmelwald, Switzerland, but let me tell you about our last day in Spain... On Monday (the 14th), we went to Segovia with Salvationists from Madrid. It's a city about an hour from Madrid. We spent about thirty minutes looking for a parking spot once we got there! ... two movies, Las Lenguas de las Mariposas, which takes place just prior to the civil war, and Bienvenidos Mr. Marshall, which is a really old movie that takes place in the late 40´s. When we watched Mariposas we learned all about Franco and the Spanish Civil War. Bievenidos tackles the aftermath of the civil war in a pretty funny way and Mr. Marshall refers to the Marshall Plan which did not include Spain. We have also learned about boleros (sad love songs), flamenco, and Spanish cooking.
