Tom and Sue took the day to zip to Bilbao (1:45 south of Biarritz) to see the famous Guggenhiem Museum. Wow, what a building!! The exhibits pale in comparison, but still we enjoyed a solid 4 hours at the museum. Afterwards, we drove back to San Sebastian where Sue introduced me to Alona Berri, the ...
Biarritz, Aquitaine, France kramertownI don't really need to tell you what we did do I? Take one part playground, one part beach, and one part sunset and you have a Kramer day in Biarritz.
... most of it (except for the beets……YUCK!). We met a very cool dog, whose owner was very chatty and clingy. Poor Ain had to translate as this guy kept rambling on and on. But the dog was cool. Some type of retriever bred for duck hunting. He looked like a yellow lab, but much bigger. We finished dinner and heading back to Ain's. I crashed, while Conrad stayed up socializing.
... Dispite the language barriers they had a lovely time exploring the basque country side. What did we do? Why go to the beach, of course!!
... the kids slept. Tom did a little surfing and another nice sunset was enjoyed during dinner.
San Sebastian is a wicked old town, literally full of tapas restaurants, bars and little shops. Our hostel was right in the middle of it all, it was ridiculously loud at night, but nothing wine and ear plugs can't handle. They have all these tapas laid out on the bars and you pick the ones that look good.... sometimes ...
San Sebastián - Donostia, Basque, Spain and Canary Islands sofenjon... But here´s the lesson we learned from that. Missing a train has no consequences, only rewards!! We somehow just got our tickets switched to the next train, AND Colleen´s ticket for that train cost less...so she MADE 9 euros!
But once we finally made it onto the train we made our way to Lyon. Once we got in we made our way to the hostel...we went up a huge hill...then back down the same hill on the stairs (which, by the way, is very difficult with a huge backpack!)...and then ...

San Sebastián - Donostia, Spain didcaI got into San Sebastian late in the evening and went to my hostel immediately. The directions were from the cathedral, so I had to ask around to actually find the cathedral first. The bus stop there is not like a normal one-it's actually at a hotel. That was the first sign San Sebastian is small. So I asked about the cathedral in the hotel and it wound up being only a 10 minute walk. The hostel was a "pension," not a hostel. I had no idea of the difference ...
San Sebastian, Spain thedschneid... The one bookshop we found had a tiny selection of books in English. The single music shop (just around the corner from our hotel) was a great disappointment. There are scores of clothes and shoe shops and hundreds of bars in the city, which suggests to me that Salamancans are well-dressed well-fed illiterates with no appreciation of music. Our hotel TV gets CNN but not BBC World, which is not good as CNN broadcasts nothing but news about the new Pope. Very, very boring.
