C/ Montera 47 Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands
We have spent the past 2 days in Madrid. This was quite nice aside from it being really cold and raining all the second day. The first day we went on a walking tour of the city and heard a bit more about Spanish history. It was really interesting and I saw parts of Madrid that I didn't see the last time I was here. The next day we went to the Temple of Debod which is an egyptain temple that used to be near Abu Simble. It was good - pretty well persevered for being transported so far. We also ...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands alanna.hollowayTo tell you the truth I was a little disappointed when I arrived at the Madrid Airport. It was a little too easy to manuever through security and collect my luggage. Then I had to figure out how to get from the airport to the Hostel Metropol at Gran Via without using a shuttle or taxi. After all, we´re supposed to be hoofing it. Not too bad, I had to take 3 trains and didn´t miss a connection. As I got closer to downtown Madrid the train stations changed, more hustle and bustle, graffiti, str...
Madrid, Spain bbcgirlsAfter Barcelona, Kelly, Angie and I set off for Madrid while Laura flew to Malta to be with some of her friends who were studying there. We took the night train to Madrid which we were a little uneasy about since it's about an 8 hour ride and we wanted to sleep, but wanted to make sure that our things were secure as well. Once we got on the train we knew that we wouldn't have to worry about our things because the people sitting with us were so nice! We ended up in the same cabin as this older...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain clioneToday I took my last official busabout trip through the regular loops. It was a very long day but I met a couple of people who are going on my Spain/Portugal tour tomorrow so it is good. We arrived in Madrid around 6 and we headed for dinner and to the market for some snacks for our trip. Madrid is an interesting city or at least the parts that I got to see. This was the first place I felt the need to really lock my back to my bed and take everything I couldn't lose with me. Don't worry I hav...
Madrid, Madrid, Spain and Canary Islands dfurlerOn arrival in Madrid we were lucky enough to meet up with an old colleague, Frank from South Africa who had relocated to Madrid a few years earlier. Frank was then kind enough to act as tour guide and took us on a luxurious drive past some of the cities major attraction. Once the historical tour ended the gastronomy tour began. We visited various tapas bars where we were treated to some of Madrid's best tapas including the legendary Spanish hams, Jamón ibérico. We had a fantastic evening cha...

... downhill back to the hostel. I end up back on Arab alley as I call it and do some souvenir shopping. This street is just filled with Arabic clothes and other items. I pick up a CD for Dad so he can reminisce on the good old days of Iraq. I also buy myself an "Arab" scarf. I go back to the hostel and along the way run into Ingrid. I swear. We chat for a bit and I tell her that I tried to upload the pics of our mountain fun via the computer at Oasis and ...
Granada, Spain kasia-waw... not a chip but tiny toast accompanied by butter and fresh rasberry jam. A tiny muffin, juice, and strong ass coffee. Like i said, its not much, lol. Then for la comida which is during siesta, yes... they still do siesta. Its the greatest thing EVER. She's made 2 sandwiches, one sweet (with peanut butter (which here is mantequilla de mani), bananas and hazlenut chocolate spread (like nutella). And another sandwich is uh... not sweet? With salami, bologna, cheese, mayo and red ...
Madrid, Spain nipperoso... but amazing church he started in 1882. Siobhan and I passed as children 16 and under.... he he he, funnier for her as she is 27. From Barcelona we travelled up to San Sebastion with beautiful old buildings and bridges. I love Spain for the old style buildings and narrow alleyways that are especially apparent in San Sebastion, cute window shutters with flower beds and all the big cathedrals surrounded by squares with specialty stores selling cheeses ...
Tomatoes throwing and tapas, Spain kitty... On Monday, I ended my morning with no sign of Stations VI, X and XI, but I did notice a few enticing places to eat. Valencians eat four meals a day, providing business to countless cafés, restaurants and cervecerias. Breakfast is light and generally taken at home. Cafés fill up between 10 a.m and noon for the late-morning snack that locals call almuerzo. As an American, it feels quite naughty to belly up to the bar at 10:30 a.m. and order a crusty sandwich with a beer on ...
