Av. Reyes Catolicos 1484 Salta, Province of Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina, +54-0387-4393006
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina sindelle... humans than llamas and female wrestlers, but seem to have arrived during a very unusual hot stretch with temperatures in Salta (and Iguazu for that matter) going as high as 40C. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that they seem to take the afternoon siesta much more seriously here than we’ve seen most places. The city literally shuts down from 2 to 5, getting as quiet and spooky as a Mad About You live studio audience.

Speaking of wacky sitcoms, one night ...
Salta, Argentina dinojay2... clothes though.

I went on the cable car to the top of the hill overlooking Salta. It was nice to get a more overal view of the city and the area at the top was beautiful. Rather than getting the chairlift back down I decided to walk down the 3,000 steps back into the city (well seen I didn't climb up them!!). On the way down I passed some people who were obviously suffering from insanity in the 37 degree heat - they were jogging up the steps...crazy ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina calmyourjets... I have never had such a big or good one absolutely brilliant!

The 29th we went to Cabalgatas Gauchas to go riding and the horses were lovely and it was great fun in the hills galloping about though if a little nerve racking to begin with!!! A BBQ for lunch which rivalled the steak of the previous day for the amount of meat and all sooo good, and then working it off ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina vicksterboormanSalta is a nice small city, the biggest in the North before you hit Bolivia. It has a really nice main plaza with impressive old colonial buildings around it, a few nice churches, a mountain (Cerro San Bernado, 1070 steps!) that has nice views of (smoggy) Salta. There is a lot more indigenous people here than anywhere alese we have been so far and there is ...
Salta, Argentina jeffandlisa... rest of the day. I managed to make a few plans with the rest of the group (having now finally acquired a phone in a long awaited package from my parents... Thanks Mum and Dad) but decided the best thing for me to do was enjoy the warm weather sitting in the hammock on the veranda, searching the internet and generally just expending as little energy as was possible. Later that evening we would celebrate.

At around 8 after it had ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina danm1986... they could find. There were toothless Bolivians selling all sorts of wares on the streets. There were poor and homeless beggars lining the walls of the bus stand. All of this crazy commotion and we hadn't been in the country for more than 15 minutes or 500m. Bienvenidos a Bolivia. I scrounged a couple of tickets on a bus leaving immediately for the town of Tupiza. Steve ran to the bathroom and all of a sudden the bus started to pull ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina chiapoe... about 4 blocks from the main town square, and 3 from a big supermarket (Carrefour). Staff is accommodating, rooms quite big and clean and cable TV with foreign channels. There is also a PC with internet for guest to use free of charge. Breakfast was coffee/tea/mate and various pastries. It was pouring the whole day, so we confirmed our excursion with www.evolutiontravel.com.ar, bought water and snacks for ...
Salta, Northern Argentina, Argentina smachim... us a pair of *ankers. at 11pm that night we were driven out to the desert to the house of a chilean lady and her french husband to see the eky at night. they have about 8 huge telescopes in their garden and learnt al about the constellations and saw the moon up close and a galaxy - millions upon millions of stars. very cool although it did get a bit cloudy later and the tour was in spanish so although we got some a lot of it was over ...
