Meeting up with over twenty Irish Ramblers for eleven days here in Spain after we finished our World trip was a nice way to unwind and prepare yourself for a soft landing back in Dublin later today.

The pressure was on, and history tells us EM_TY and time-frames aren’t friends.
We had originally planned to drive all around the Picos de Europa National Park, but after valuable advice from our hosts at the Toscana Hotel, we decide to try the Cares River Gorge Hike. Well, maybe not all of it, as its three hours each way, but maybe just a little bit. The hike is one of the most breathtaking trekking trails that can be done in Europe. Youthful strapping European couples are now passing us by at full speed, and we even see some brave souls ascending the path (god help them!). Finally we come within view of the cable car station and in no time are seated in our trusty steed.

Throughout our trip we have constantly seen road signs warning of deer crossing. After a couple of thousand kilometres we have yet to see any sign of a deer, so after leaving the motorway, when one finally crosses our path, we are both surprised and gratified.
