We finally arrived in Europe!!!

THE FOLLOWING WAS WRITTEN BY MARCELLA AND MYSELF AFTER OUR EUROPEAN ADVENTURE! Marcella: Hola, Bonjour, Guten Tag, Ciao... For those of you who know me you wouldn't be surprised when I told you I was going to Europe. Ever since I could imagine I wanted to expand my horizons. Now don't get me wrong. I love California, Los Angeles is very exciting, San Francisco is beautiful and Las Vegas, have I got stories from Vegas. I have even made annual trips to Rosarito and TJ. However nothing will comp...

Our first ´UPDATE´ from the road.

Here it is - What you have all been waiting for ... our first ´UPDATE´ Virgin´s $55 flight from Heathrow to Madrid seemed like a good deal - but here´s the catch ... it took 10 hours and resulted in us having an afternoon to see Brussels. Our itenerary went out the window on day 1. That will teach us not to read the small print on the ticket. We wandered through the greyness that is Brussels and stumbled upon the Grand Place, Cathederal & Manneken Pis. The Belgians must have a sense of hu...

... last time. At the Bar Pinnoxio, we left ourselves in the hands of the friendly old barista who brought us a delicious omelet with eggplant and a torta to go with the double espressos. We picked up jambon and manchego cheese for our lunch in Madrid.

Our hotel in Madrid, the Europa, was recommended by Chris' parents. The balcony on our room has a panoramic view of Puerta del ...

Ciao Prague, Bienvinidos Madrid

... however that is decided
upon.

From here, I visited another synagogue
before heading over to the Old-New Synagogue. An interesting name I
know. It came about when the Germans occupied Prague. The Germans
didn't read Hebrew (obviously) and when they heard the name of the
synagogue to them it sounded like German for Old-New and the name
stuck. The history of this synagogue is tremendous and it was an
experience to get to go in and have ...

Another Great Week in Madrid: March 10-15

... Plaza Mayor, and Chueca. We actually ate in a delicious Mexican restaurant (forget the name) but we shared some nachos with guacamole, make-your-own cheese quesadillas, and chicken fajitas. I went to class later that day, and planned to meet up with Jenny that evening. I met up with her as well as a few other high school friends and we went to a bar called Chocita Sueca where I had gone for my birthday-good place with cheaps drinks, relatively American atmosphere. We ...

The Land of Ham, Salsa Dancing and Mullets

... at Randalls, which was great! I must say salsa dancing isn't really my Forte (that dance will always be reserved for swing), but the salsa dancing I did in Graz at a nearby salsa bar definitely helped me prepare. I also danced with a Spanish man, which was an interesting experience, me not being able to speak much Spanish besides the basics. I've found that during trips like these, I actually miss German and whenever I hear German ...

... after so long in Asia. I think she was amused by the types of things we were so impressed by, such as: no smoking signs that people actually adhered to, no spitting on the underground, the formation of orderly queues, nobody shouting.... We landed in Madrid at about 1.30am. Amazingly we managed to navigate the Spanish metro to catch the last train of the night in order to reach our hotel. We were exhausted, we were sweaty, we were excited - we ...

The German Girl Whose Name Sounded Italian To Me

MOOD: Tired but intent on getting this journal up to date DATE/TIME: Oct 2, 1:43am, Hotel Paraiso, Rm. 110, Ciudad Real The two big museums in Madrid, the Prado and Reina Sofia, are both free on weekends, with the latter free after 2:30. That's pretty astonishing to me. And since I love free, I planned to hit the Reina Sofia this day (Sept 30). But as I still had some time, I walked around Renife Park, which was really nice, especially the lake in the ...

Sick in Madrid

... it is an English expression, and I would agree because songs here would say something like "oye" or "mira". Ask a Spanish person to write "ha ha ha" on something like "lol" on aim to indicate they are laughing, and they will right "ja ja ja"...so yes he was singing it in English, but only getting 2% of it right. Now I know what my Spanish friends are thinking when I sing Spanish songs by Marc Anthony even though I've never actually seen the words ...

Barcelona by train....its so beautifull, Ï know, if you guys had $1 for everytime I called a place beautiful you guys could probably afford the plane ticket here, but this place is truly beautifull!
