... seen as very important people before the Catholic rule and their quarter was located right next to the castle. Next we went to La Giralda and the Cathedral. The Cathedral in Sevilla was originally a Muslim mosque and the bell tower, or La Giralda, used to be the tower where they would call out the Muslim prayers every day. The Cathedral was beautiful but the view from la Giralda was the best because you could see all of Sevilla from 4 different directions.

... of our program, respectively, still had 2 seats at their table. So, Liz and I ate dinner with them. It was actually quite nice to have 3 hours to just talk to them and get to know them. But, OH. MY. GOD. Nuria talks SO fast, by the end of dinner, I felt like I had just stuck my head in a dryer and put it on full spin. We had planned to go out with the group that night, but the sheer mental exertion of keeping up with the conversation over dinner wore me out so much that I just went to bed.
... Met folks from Spain and France on train.....tried to watch a movie in Spanish, but changed our minds when we realized it was one of those sad, deep-thinking movies that is mostly about the words spoken/verbal communication and not much about action. Boy, it was a challenge to try to pick up on the gist of i(gotta get better at Spanish!) And, since it was about affairs and betrayal, we decided our energy would be better spent ...
Sevilla, Spain jwagnersd... and after I had confirmed that they had a room, walked me back. This good Samaritan help, after the manic meanness of Seville was reassuring and I was more than happy to stand them beers at the bar. We reached the hotel (without too many road traffic infringements), booked in and then walked down the road to a small café, where we joined the locals for more sherry and a bite to eat. Small places definitely are more friendly. Distance driven 165 kms 102 miles
Seville, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands harryandnorah... was in store for us later that day. This meant doubling the number of kms to get to El Ronquillo (the only place within sight of Seville that had camping marked on the map) making our daily total to be approx 65kms. Plus, there would be 15 or so kms that we would have to backtrack tomorrow to get into Sevilla. So resigned to the fact that we were going to be doing extra AND having to double back tomorrow, off we went. I kept ...
Seville, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands 50odd... we are going to see the sights of seville! Today kels took me to see all of Seville, my feet are killing me because we did so much walking. We first went to the Sana Monica park and rode these hilarious bike/trolleys for a while. It was a site to see for sure. The park is similar to Central Park because it is right in the center of the city and there are horse and buggies going through all the time. We then went to Plaza Espana, which was huge ...
Seville, Spain dallenogare... like no its not a problem, its my host dad that cares because he doesn't want to hear me really late at night (which he doesn't anyways) cause he has to get up early. And she said she just worries about me and doesn't want me walking alone. I said I have lived without parents for three years and I never walk alone and I'm smart about things. She said it would be fine and I'm young and I should go out and she would talk to Paco (my ...
Sevilla, Spain spaulos... concerned about getting something done a certain way - they are masters of improvisation. They accomplish what they need to, without the stress pressed upon us by our strict timetables. Also, everything here is done with a person. In the states if you want a red pepper you can go to the supermarket, grab the vegetable, self-checkout and be back in the car in 3 minutes. Here you enter the market - but are not allowed to touch the vegetables. You must find the person ...
Sevilla, Spain alex_merwin... scale. Pretty much every building is cool looking and there are fountains everywhere. I think that my favorite place so far is this park right down the street from me, El Parque de Maria Luisa. It's pretty big and there are people doing everything there: eating, reading, playing soccer, roller skating, sitting, riding bikes. There should be pictures posted of it so check it out. I can't even describe how pretty it is. There ...
Sevilla, Spain tla269... at the same intersection for 10 minutes (I'm beginning to think that walking would be faster than taking the bus in this city.). Then, about halfway through my grammar class with my Nazi teacher, she told us that she had to miss a class in the beginning of November and that we needed to make up those two missed hours somehow. Every other teacher in this school looks for any reason at all to miss class, and she wants to ...
