... for me. I was expecting amazing things after reading Bruceīs report, although probably if it did work it would have just been someone or something giving out to me about ODB :o(

The shamen did say that it is reasonably normal for it not to work on the first attempt (which is why ceremonies typically last about a week instead of a day, I suppose). Itīs possible I may try again in Ecuador or in another time but Iīm quite unmotivated now. I was expecting this to be ...

INCA TRAIL

... on day 4) the accommodations at Aguas Calientes on the 4th night is based on double or triple occupancy

(DWB or TWB). If a client would like to have a single room, need to add US$15.00 to the base price of the tour. You must decide if you want to have a single room in advance and let Us know when making your trek reservation since we need to purchase the hotel booking in advance as well. You cannot decide it at a later date or once you ...

A few more days..then it's over..already??!!

... not infront of others, Tina was in some kind of mood and she challenged and questioned everything the guy said, it was so awkward and uncomfortable and i just hated it and wanted to get the hell out of there. I couldn't shake the bad mood for a couple of hours. The whole dynamics of our group were changed and it wasn't a fun last dinner. It took some cheering up and several more drinks for me to get over it!! We went to a club playing salsa and then another dance club ...

Peru Encompassed

... before and hung his head in shame after an apparent altercation with one of the group last night when he swiped a drink and gave it to the cook. All blown way out of proportion if you ask me, some people just look for drama. Anyway Ang & I ended up right at the back of the group with the Germans after she spent 20 minutes looking for an appropriate toilet spot and before we knew it we were on our own. The rest of teh group was gone and the path was not an obvious one. As the only ...

Machu Picchu

... early and get to the bus stop early was so that we arrived at MP early to be one of the 400 people who are allowed to go up to Waynapichu, the mountain that looks down on MP. We walked a little while looking for a place open for breakfast but didn’t find anything and instead saw that the bus line was already close to 100 people long, so we joined it before it got longer. We got a little bit of food from a shop that was right next to the line.

Preparations for the Inca Trek

... for our trek and the guides talked us through each day and what to pack etc etc... the sleeping bag we have hired from them is enormous, not quite sure how it is going to fit in my rucsac, but we will sort it out... wish me luck, and the next you will hear from me will be at the end of the trek, where I can hopefully say "I did it!"... I know I can, its just going to be a challenge...

anyway, until then, lots of love xxx

An Inca Education

Morning chaps!

I'm currently sat in my hostel awaiting some bacon and eggs on toast (mmmm, what a delight) and so I thought I would bring an update of my first few days in Cuzco.

First, the bus ride. 22 hours on the road from Lima... It completely smashed my previous longest journey, which I think was in Colombia, by 9 hours. Massive. I was a little worried as to how my legs would fare in such cramped conditions for almost a day's travelling and so I decided to splash ...

Inca Trail - Day 4

... bus down to Aguas Calientes to meet up with the group for lunch.

After lunch we took the opportunity to dunk ourselves in the hot spring baths in the town which was heaven after 4 days without a shower!!

Refreshed we made our way to the train station for the backpackers service to Ollantaytambo and finally the bus back to Cusco. Samay Wasay Youth Hostel with its luxuries like flushing toilets, a bed and a shower, was a welcome sight!!

A day off in Cuzco

Still trying to acclimatise with the altitude so having a gentle day.
It is nice and sunny but still very chilly first thing as we walk out for breakfast, then wander down to the market. It soon warms up as the sun does itīs job.

Inca Civilization

... used an Inca civil war to his advantage to eventually appoint a puppet Inca leader. The Spaniards took everything of value, leaving minimal traces of the splendor that was once Cusco. The sacred sites themselves were torn down and Catholic churches today stand on their foundations. The splendid gold and silver artifacts melted down without even a mention or description of their beauty or function.

The condor, puma and snake were integral to ...
