... shortly after 4pm and caught a taxi to the hotel. Lucky for us, by Novemeber it is off season here in Spain and thus we were able to get a great, cheap rate on a great little hostel near the Alhambra. I am so used to staying in hostels with 6 to 8 other people in a room that it was nice to travel and have a private room with nice facilities. For only $15 euro a night per person, we were able to stay at a place somewhat equivalent to a nicer "Days Inn" or a low star ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands warrmb7... is typically Moorish; ornate archways, mosaicry, marble by the bucket load and water features everywhere. An absolutely enchanting and dramatic structure overlooking Granada. We spent the best part of the day there, and very much appreciated Amanda and Gavin´s jovial company (thanks guys). Following the Alhambra, we headed down into the old town and commenced a night of beers, accompanied by free tapas. Each round consisted of a beer with a ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain lymandannabelle... also amazing. We made our way to a park, which had so many trees, and there was an exhibit on the environment. I thought it was cool how there was a picture there of Canyon de Chelly all the way in Spain. I don't even thing Canyon de Chelly is a well known place in general. After walking around I really wanted some famous free tapas and we got some. A euro fifty for a cana and a free tapa. They gave me some kind of chicken and vegetables. It was ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands skivail89... Some bars have better tapas then others… here is a sample of tapas we ate: ham and cheese sandwiches with fries, potato salad, meaty stew, paella, bread with cheese, olives, fish fillet. Yum. By the way, I now am beginning to enjoy seafood and olives - two foods that I used to hate!
So, I love Granada not just because of all the ¨free¨ food, but also because it is so adorable and historic!! There are tons of little streets with shops and cafes ...
... I went to pay, the man at the register told me he was going to give me the postcard for free for being so beautiful. I love Granada even more.
After coffee, we went back to meet with the group, where we headed off to tour the royal cathedral and old city of Granada. Having not yet used my camera in Spain, I was pretty psyched to start taking pictures, and ended up taking about 200 of the church alone. Might need to delete some of those. We exited the ...
Granada, is an enchanting city in the Sierra Nevada mountains in the south of Spain. Two hours or so inland from the Costa del Sol, you find Granada. Here you can swim in the heat of the day, or drive an hour and ski in the nearby snow-capped mountains. However, neither of these were our prime reason for visiting. We cam e to Granada from Seville primarily to see the Alhambra, a fortress and palace complex dating back to the 11th century. This was the place where the ...

Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands stereognosticOn our 2nd day in Almerimar we decided to hire a car and see more of Spain than just the rugged coastline so we headed for the ancient palace and fort of Alhambra in Granada. We followed the coast west for an hour which is littered with tent like structures that cover most of the coastal area which are used to grow vegies under, I assume to keep them out of the intense heat of the summer sun. From the ocean it gives off an ...
Granada, Andalusia, Spain and Canary Islands bellavita... the "Plato Alpujarreno" seemed to me to be the menu's most authentic dinner choice and turned out to be a cholesterol-lover's special of country ham, sausage, chorizo, a fried egg, and fried potatoes - virtually an American diner breakfast. Granada's main sights and claim to fame are the Alhambra and Generalife, the massive hilltop fortress and residential complex built by the ruling Nasrid Dynasty in the 13th and ...
Granada, Spain modernnomad67... It wasn't bad. The three of us talked for a bit, then they left to meet up with a friend. I went outside, where people were sitting at a big table, smoking, drinking, and talking. The guy next to me was Italian, from the south, and we talked for a bit in a mix of Spanish, Italian, and English. It was fantastic. He'd studied up north, in Bilbao, for a semester and loved Spain so much he kept coming back. He was ...
