Copacabana: an unfortunate end to Bolivia

A travel blog entry by alexennis269

Having spent three days immersed in the wild of the pampas we were ready to return to civilization. After landing on the morning flight from Rurrenabaque we went straight to the bus terminal and hopped on the first bus out of La Paz. 4 hours later we were in Copacabana, a small, downtrodden town on the shore of Lake Titicaca, the world's highest …

Looking high and low for Barry...

It was without doubt the most active Boxing Day of my life and I did little more than sit on a bus from La Paz to Copacabana on the Bolivian shore of Lake Titicaca. Thank goodness my activity levels were kept low as, despite my protestations to the contrary when questioned by accomplices from the night before, I was in possession of little hangover …

Beautiful Bolivian views of Lake Titicaca

After successfully negotiating what amounted to 10p off the taxi to Copa (we had no change!) we ontinued in scant style and got a 3 course meal for 2quid while we considered hostels.

Hostel Sonia stood out straight away (hey momma!), though we decided on its cheaper alternative across the road and run by the same people, Hostel Emperanza ( …

Eerst een woordje over hoe we precies in Copacabana geraakt zijn..

Decent prices but deceitful staff

The room was a nice size and it was cheap but the staff lied and told us there was breakfast when there wasn't. Also its more of a hotel than a hostel. no common areas so no real opportunity to meet other people.

Cheap and cold

Forget about the promise of hot showers - the coldest showers of my trip so far and in the coldest place. Not an ideal combination but then I only paid $25 Bolivianos per night for a bed. Place also seemed to be run by a pre-adolescent girl.
