Hostal Austria, la Paz, Bolivia (70 Bs)
lovely and warm in the sun
We are normally very punctual, I would even go so far as to say stupidly early, for departures etc, but the day we left lima breakfast took longer than we anticipated, the traffic was awful, I had some technical problems with my bike and dave's slow puncture needed pumping. So by the time we got to the bus terminal we were well stressed, even though we were right on time. We were charged a...

Hostal Austria, la Paz, Bolivia
Very warm
We're enjoying being in la Paz, despite the number of kms and altimetres we scale each day just to get from A to B! Up till now we have been doing catch up things, like having laundry done, getting a haircut, (I was desperate) buying long cycling tights and a pair of pliers, and bits and bobs for the bikes. yesterday we met up with Chris (we met him in Montanita and bumped into him again in Guayaquil) and his rid...
So if anyone ever tells you not to go to La Paz, dont listen, and if you ever listen to a word I say, go to La Paz. "The Peace" is an amazing city. Often quoted the highest capital in the world, it is neither the capital nor the highest city, but is so high that you dont need to chew coca leaves to feel that you are floating in the clouds. Itīs nestled in a crater so large that geeks should be making stories about how aliens landed there thousands of years ago. Like many third world citie...
I finished the mine tour in Potosi around 1:30 pm, so I grabbed my backpack from the hostel and walked the 15 minutes downhill to the Bus Station in the hope of finding a bus going to sucre. As I walked into the Station I noticed a bus with "Sucre" on it leaving. I waved at the bus driver and sure enough he stopped and let me on. Great no waiting, sometimes not planing in advance works in your favour. The 3 hour drive to Sucre is a very scenic one, Mountains, Rivers and pretty villages whiz p...
Sucre, Bolivia anywherebuthere Boring background stuff (Day 1):
Stupid El Dorado bus from Potosi got in to La Paz over two hours early at 05:30 Sunday morning, which was an inconvenient time, considering I had no accommodation booked and the typical one was firmly locked up. The bus itself was grand but the driver turned off the heating and the personal overhead lights, and this was the first cama bus Iīve been on where we havenīt been provided with any blankets, pillows, food or beverages. Still I suppose itīs not bad ...

La paz, Bolivia eskimostephieMake sure to check out Andrea's Travel Blog for more stories and photos of our trip! Going North Due to a national bus strike, we were forced to fly to La Paz north of Sucre. The view from the flight was stunning. La Paz has a unique setting. It's flanked on one side by the Andes Mountains and is situated in one of the many valleys which sinks lower in altitude compared to the alto plano, a very high area of Bolivia which stretches out for half of the country. Because the plateau is very high...
Kjempedeilig. Men har blitt rimelig forkjoela,...
La Paz, Bolivia maria.wasvikWhat a journey! 33 hours later and we´ve finally arrived, survived the altitude and we are very excited about the next few months... just feel so happy to be travelling!

We left the house on Friday evening, got the train to Manchester airport, which was full of people going out for the night and the occasional holiday maker...including a little chinese lady with a massive suitcase, which she could´ve fitted into. We spent some time playing on the travelators ...
