    Boat trip!

Early start today to check out of hotel #1 and head to the boat. It was a great day after some initial confusion and panic and nearly missing the boat (I have now explained to them the difference in English between "being picked up outside the auditorium" and "making your own way to the boat opposite the auditorium across two main roads and a car park")! There was probably a total of 50 people on the boat of mixed ages and nationalities. After leaving the port, we headed west ...

... Spanish quite quickly as I won't actually be using it... Something to think about some more over the next few days. After class, there was some trouble as due to some admin error it looks like Monica will not be on the course next week. So that's not great! I had plans to go to the beach with Monica and Aoife but I was so tired I had to retreat to the hotel. Another afternoon by the pool ...

As expected, still over tired today! Class was good though and afterwards a few of us went to grab lunch at a local market. There were lots of different food stands (think Borough Market al Palma) and we sat at one with a few different tapas (obviously!). This afternoon we went to the Es Baluard art gallery which was interesting. A few pieces of local Mallorquin art including a small Joan Miro exhibition. A quick mojito with Monica, Trisha ...

A little woozy after last night's drinks but not too bad! Monica and I both tried to encourage the rest of the class to be more sociable but that's not going anywhere fast - still - early days! After class we headed down to the port and have booked ourselves onto a cruise on Saturday which visits a couple of beaches along the coast. Managed for the first time to get a sunbed by ...

    Day 2

Another good day at school. I made a friend, whoop! Monica, from Brazil, is also here by herself so we are heading out to dinner together later. I feel for her as her English is not brilliant but is far better than my Portuguese.... I'm sure we will work something out! The three main English-speaking people from the course all live outside of the main city so it may be harder to get them out in the evening - but we will see! The lesson today ...
