An Early Day Exploring

A travel blog entry by eldonsteeves

We were up at 4:15 a.m. for our journey to the Geysers El Tatio. We were told we MUST see these at sunrise, so early rise it was. Last night we ordered some breakfast for takeout, and it was ready so we were on the road about 4:45. We thought we were going to beat the rush but there was a steady stream of mini vans and cars well ahead of us. The road was the absolute worst washboard we have ever driven on. New years eve day we set up our slack line in the main square and made some new friends, a chilean guy even had a didgeridoo he ...

It's protected by the National Reserve "Los Flamencos" and of course we went to see the birds, not Spanish dancers. The lake is 2,300 metres above sea level with a surface area of 320,000 hectares. It looks likes an enormous crust of salt, which it is, with weird ...

Day 51 - Lake Ceja, desert swimming & salt sun

A travel blog entry by kittysheeran

... the salt, the white edges where the water has dried and left a snowy looking layer, the deeper blue where the water was deeper and the greens and yellows in some of the rock pools where minerals had collected. The sunset was stunning!! We also just discovered the sunset setting on our camera which means we can better capture the amazing colours that were unfolding in the sky. A wonderful day and another ...
