Oaxaca has an excellent museum featuring a stunning collection of items found in a Mixtec tomb, including intricately worked turquoise, gold, silver and crystal jewellery. There was also a human skull decorated with pieces of turquoise.

... this. Around the city are some of the treasures of Mexico, including Monte Alban, Mitla, and Hierve del Agua, as well as valleys where the Zapotec’s live and produce some beautiful weaving. Given time and proximity, a tour was going to be necessary to get to as much of this as possible, so we began to look for a full day and booked it for later in the week.
