Morning wake-up was at 6 am. Pamplona comes alive at night. The streets were filled with people of all ages partying until late last night. Luckily I went to bed relatively early as it was a long day of walking today. I covered about 24 km in hot weather. Fortunately Spain is civilized enough to feature cerveza at rest stops. ... a few hours later I turned back, having spotted an abundance of lizards and having officially crossed the border into Catalonia. Peter - now much happier being back on roads that his inappropriate sports bike enjoyed again - joined me for a beer as we watched the Real Madrid/Athletico Madrid derby match later that evening. ... the hill. I'm not going to think about the repercussions on the treadmill til I get home. Again the tapas are unbelievable ( they call them pintxos here ) . I've discovered there is an art to a good G+T , and the little cafe here has the know how . The city is even more spectacular at night , the photos don't do it justice really ( photos still to come ...

... glimpses of the imposing Pyrenees as we changed our direction to the south. Our route took us past a high stone wall perched on a high bank with a magic gaze and paused. I noted there were signs enticing travellers through the imposing gates of the wall so we retraced our steps and entered the most secure village of Navarrenx. I don't think the entire wall survives today but this walled village is amazingly expansive and seems to be a modern hub for visitors.
