... setting for Verdi's " il Trovatore" and the birthplace of Nobel prizewinning neurologist Santiago Ramony y Canal (1852-1934). So you medically trained people would know where Petilla terminology comes from. A busy little place in times past. Only a dozen or so houses left in the village now.
Drove as far as we could up towards the French border but couldn' t find a way to cross the Pyrenees. May try tomorrow! ...

... Knees were hurting all the way down the other side :((( but the calves aren't so sore today :))). It then became a pretty walk through a few deserted towns, but very clean and pretty. We lunched in Uterga - which seemed a great idea, but wasn't feeling crash hot by the end of the day. We stopped in Obanos and took off our shoes for a while before the last walk of the day into Puente La Reina. ... today and passed through the towns of Maneru, Cirauqui, Lorca, Villatuerte and then our arrival at Estella. I thought today would be relatively flat going but that wasnt the case at all. Very hilly all the way through and it was very hard going in the heat. We will start earlier tomorrow to try to get to our destination (Los Arcos) as early as possible. I asked how the children were managing the big walks and was told that apparently they are having the time of their lives. Fantastic!
