Last Saturday, we were feeling pretty ambitious, so got up early and caught a bus to El Escorial, a town about an hour outside of Madrid by bus. The most famous building there, the Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, was the home of royal families during the sixteenth century. It was built in the middle of the 1500's, but is impeccable today. It houses the tombs of many of Spain's kings and queens, including those whose children later became royalty. ...

... particolare dall'esterno. Sulla via del ritorno ci siamo diretti poi alla chiesa dedicata a S. Teresa d'Avila, che pur non essendo spettacolare, ha comunque un suo fascino. Una bella arietta fresca ci ha colti impreparati qui ad Avila.... La temperatura si è abbassata di molto e così siamo dovuti tornare in albergo ad infilarci un paio di pantaloni lunghi, felpe e giubbini!! ...
