    Ávila was a very good day trip and and the wall was incredible! However towards the end of the day I did begin to get slightly bored. Other than the wall, there was not much to do besides walk the city and visit churches. Ávila is the city in Spain with the highest density of churches! Although beautiful, every cathedral or basilica was nearly the same as the last, and after a long day of walking, I was glad to get back to Madrid. ...

    The girls went scarf-shopping yet again and bought a few more, while the long-suffering boys waited in the town square. We have seen very few bike shops on this trip at all!

    We had a bit of a rest in the afternoon, caught up with washing and went to the supermarket. Went back to the town at night for another wander around.

    ... holding the thing together. How they lifted the blocks and put the arches together, I have absolutely no idea. I spend ages walking round it, inspecting it from above and below, and taking lots of photos. And then spend half an hour having coffee outside a nearby bar, so that I can look at it some more! I reckon it might be the most amazing structure I've ever seen, though perhaps the Taj Mahal might edge it out.
