I am typing up my handwritten journal from my trip last year. Usually when I travel I don't like to spend a lot of time sitting at a computer. I would rather sit in my hostel bed and write in a physical journal. ------- Our first full day in Peru has come and gone. Without knowing decent Spanish it has been somewhat stressful for us here in Cusco. (We learned as much as we could in the months before leaving, but it didn't stick very well!) Last night, our flight came in about an hour late due...

I suppose this is a fitting end to my time in bolivia... no real entry now except to say i made it, itīs late. will try to find only a 2 day trip to Machu Pichu and a flight to Lima and likely miss alot of the other cool looking things to do around here. more later

(posted by Steph) Hellloooo Cusco!! So from Iguazu, we had a fairly long and adventurous trip to get to Cusco, Peru. We flew back to Buenos Aires where we spent the afternoon. We headed to La Boca region of the city which we missed the first time around. Itīs a very cool and very colorful part of the city! We then got on an evening flight to Lima, where we arrived around 11pm. Our flight to Cusco wasnīt until 515am the next morning. The initial pan was to crash in the airport, but we were bot...
Cusco, Peru drichardsonCusco is wet and raining when we get our bags and push through the backpacked throng to find a taxi outside the airport. Already we are breathless at the slightest effort and realise we are feeling the effects of suddenly arriving at an altitude of 3,326 metres. Arriving at the Recoletta hostal we were met by charming hosts who gave us immediately coca leaf tea to help our panting- they are obviously used to seeing people like us breathless on arrival. Again friends Wayne and I are troupers a...
Cusco, Peru kasnsqueakThe flight to Cuzco left Arequipa quite early, and consisted of two short flights: Lima to Juliaca and then Juliaca to Cuzco. The taxi driver was waiting for us with my name on a piece of paper. My memory is really bad, so it's as if I were visiting Cuzco for the first time. Upon arrival at the Hospedaje we were shown to the TV and table tennis room, where we would spend a fair bit of time, as it was still quite early and the rooms were not yet ready for us. We watched a film called "The Pris...
Cusco, Peru mario.travelsWe arrived in Cusco the next morning after an uneventful and brief (50 minute) LAN flight. The flight approach into Cusco took us through a narrow valley surrounded by mountains. Cusco is a Mountain town at 13,000 feet - it is the gateway to Machu Picchu and many other locations in the Southern part of Peru, and the heart of the Inca Empire. (and a recommended 2-day stopover to acclimate to the altitude). From our approach into Cusco, we could see red-tile roofs and tightly packed buildings l...

... travelling through from the airport it was easy to see that 10 years ago, Lima was the 2nd most dangerous city in the worls after Beruit but its changed in many ways although you dont go out.....definately not. However, our boarding for the night was in a better part of the city. However, we had to get up at 5.30am to catch our flight to the Sacred Velley where we begin work in ...

This superbly crafted shrine represents the finest monumental construction in the western or upper hanan sector of Machu Picchu below the Sacred Plaza group. It is accessed directly from the neighboring, high status compound kancha, the Royal Residence, Machu Picchu's most important residential group. This suggests that the cave may have been a private shrine established for the Inca or ...
