... or Portuguese. I said either was fine, but I think the interviewer wanted to show off her English. It was only afterwards that the realisation hit me that I'm going to be dubbed. I only hope they don't get the woman who dubs the female voices in Horrible Histories to dub me, as the content of what I said was probably stupid enough, without adding a stupid voice into the mix.

... across. It seems like any note bigger than 20 reais (about 5 pounds) causes some consternation and the need for a conference with colleagues. And this is a country where things are not that cheap. When you groceries come to 39 reais, it would seem acceptable to pay with a 50 note without the check-out girl visibly blanching or calling for a supervisor. They also frequently change shift mid-customer, or go off shift after serving two people.

... with all the amenities that implies, yet with a small town feel. It has its own unique and delicious cuisine. It has a choice of language schools (there are surprisingly few places in Brazil to learn Portuguese outside of Rio and Sao Paulo), and the added benefit of not many people speaking English. Finally, it is in a region with a tradition of luthiering (guitar making).
