... a tree trunk bridge & going through the bamboo forest, but turned back just before the fright fork that would have got me to other swimming holes.
Finally back on route, found the falls but the river was so swollen after recent rains I was dubious about going into the main flow & getting washed down to the lower pool from which there was no way out except down. Went in at the smaller side falls which were more sedate.
After dropping Bev off at the airport we headed straight out of town. Of course this took us a good hour due to traffic and the inability to get proper directions! The map I we had purchased at a hotel the day when we came into the country was supposedly up-to-date, but so far I had counted around 10 mistakes. The San Jose portion was no different. By the time we got out of the city it was around 3 PM so we only had a few hours of daylight left and we still had to go ...

... is a pretty sweet lifestyle. This english guy has been here for 3 months and his philosophy is to sit in this hammock untill he has come up with an idea and then go do it. I was thinking that is an excelent way of life and might just have to adopt that. ha As far as doing yoga It has not even happened. haha I have done some meditations which have been great but its really to hot for yoga. Anyway I was going to stay a week here but I ...
Uvita, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica carrera2uThe bus back to Santa Teresa left Cobano at midnight and stopped in front of a road sized slip n' slide full of mud around 12:30. The rodeo in Cobano, nearby Santa Teresa, had ended and the carnival-like festivities drew into the night. During the events there were a few minutes of rain. This apparently turned the road into ...
Cobano, Costa Rica miller.timeThe trip up from Panama went really smoothly. We booked tickets the day before we left (had to pay the full $12.50 for a ticket to San Jose even though we were getting off half way). Bus ride went smoothly - had to get out of the bus and have our bags sniffed by drug dogs on the Panama side, then complete immigration there and walk over to the Costa Rica side (bags went over on the bus). Then complete ...
Palmar Norte, Costa Rica varney... sabatical from his wife and kids and ''finding himself' while working in a tourist shop in town. Walter was very hospitable, inviting us to have some drinks with him and to stay at his house on our return from Drake Bay. Among other things, he told us about the secret Colombian government project to build a tunnel to Europe which will reduce the journey to only 6 hours by car. We didn't have the heart to tell him it sounded completely impossible.
Sierpe, Costa Rica gregandjane... oblivious to this requirement I immediately apologized and asked him how much we were required to pay him for the permits. His stone cold eyes transported me back to my border encounter and immediately I knew that his power bags were packed and ready to go. Still his reply was staggering and unbelievable. He told me that since we did not have permits we could not stay at the hostel and were required to hike back to town the same day. Furthermore, he ensured ...
