... mostly along small streets rather than stalls under one large structure like Vic Market at home is. Loads of shops with cheap **** plastic goods and toys, clothing, shoes, electronics etc. The best part was the Islamic area, so many lovely materials, gorgeous laces, jeweled tassels, gold trims and exotic colourful patterned scarves, embroidered hats, incense and spices. ... on and watch the monkeys and birds whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery. Heaven! Had a swim and then coffee chez nous. Very warm but there was a sudden rain deluge which cleared the air. ... On the bus and we drive through Galle to the fort. Lunch is average, never eat at the Galle Fort Hotel. The fort is a fantastic mix of history and location. It has had a mixed history of owners from the Portuguese to the Dutch and English before being returned to the locals. Luckily at lot of the wall and buildings remain intact.
