In the morning, we are off with a family of 6 Belgian and a dutch guy to Sinharaja forest reserve. This is a very special place in Sri Lanka, one of the last (or the last?) primary rain forest left in the country. In wet season, the area receives up to 5meters of rain and floods are usually the daily battles of locals. The nature walk is so lovely, and our guide for the day is just an encyclopaedia when it comes to plants and animals. He could tell ...

Tired, only a short post today. Enjoy to photos, and more ...

Alex and I beach hopped our way south to Mirissa, a small town located 30 minutes south east of Unawatuna. We found ourselves at the southern most tip of Sri Lanka, with nothing but Antarctica beyond, we were fortunate enough to have the Indian Ocean at our private-bungalow-doorstep for only $45 a night!

With a 2km sandy beach, an abundant number of casual beach side cafes and endless water ...

... the locals has it benefits and clear disadvantages, as I'm learning. This was the case today whilst chatting to a local dude on the beach, great guy, plenty of banter and tips. However it soon shifts to a sales pitch, offering us more affordable lodging up a near vertical 100m stair climb to his mates guesthouse and chipping in on some big fish dinner he was cooking later. Both were good options, but overly pricey. With us both doing the we'll think about it speech, we ...
