We travelled to a medieval ghost village perched high on the top of a mountain. The drive there was dreadful, had my eyes closed most of the way. Great mountain top view of the west coast of Chios. We visited a lovely village and church with carvings from a tree a feature. No air-con on the ...

... great civilization remains other than temple ruins. Built atop that, though, is an impressive 14th Century monastic settlement and a rather unique church from that period. We've seen dozens of churches from this period but the design and style of the one here is unlike any other we've seen, comprised of four separate chapels in what feels inside like a cloverleaf design. ... structures are an architectural
marvel, narrow constructions of gray stone with flat wooden roofs, low doors,
tiny arched windows and wooden terraces. Quite a climb up steep, slippery, rough paths. It was empty, like a ghost town, except for a coffee shop and a few of the house with signs of being lived in. Apparently people are beginning to buy these small houses as summer homes. Scenery is beautiful but it is way away from civilization. Lots of peace and quiet!
