... t happen a lot during our trips. Furthermore the minivan was very fast and we reached Berastagi within 3 hours. The bus dropped us off at the end of the main road from where we started to walk back to the city center.

We asked about accommodation in one guesthouse, the owner of which wanted to charge us IDR 200,000 for a room without bathroom and IDR 300,000 for a room with bathroom. Be sure that we politely refused and left. We didnīt consider the fact that most local ...

We arrived in Sumatra after a quick flight from Singapore. We were initially going to take a ferry, then a second one, then a bus (or three?) and realized hopping on a 1hour 30 minutes flight beat the two and a half days of the alternative. The next day we climbed up Mt Sibayak, an active volcano, and discovered the reason the whole place stank. It was the sulphurous ...

... Sadly I only had 2.5 hours transfer time in kl. so I missed my next flight. So surely the lovely people from emirates would help. Not a chance. Wanting nothing to do with it. So I ran round trying to find an airline that could take me to Medan that evening. Although arriving at the LCC terminal (had to get a cab as not close by - it's like getting to heathrow and being told the ...

... the day and night.

After exploring the town, grabbing some dinner, try the food stall 'Thata’ (it does great grilled fish). I hit the hay early with the intention of setting out first thing, one to try and avoid the rain, it normally comes from lunchtime onwards and two to try and get the volcano to myself. They advise that you do the trek with at least one other person and that you should attempt the opposite path down the volcano without a guide, but ...
