... a bus from Guangzhou got detoured around Lingling and rather than go all the way back into Lingling, it dropped me off at the bus 7 & 25 stop, way north of town. So, I did my 10 minute walk from my school apartment to catch bus 13, rode it 10 minutes to the first stop across the river and transferred to bus 7. It turns out "way north of town" was only about 3 of the 6-7 miles to the airport. But, this is China. Some motorcycle or 3-wheeler going my ...

I walked into Vennie's building, which is also a large shopping center, and immediately saw a Dairy Queen (ice cream related eats only) where Vennie met me about an hour later, after I had done a quick walk through the 6 floor mall, including their B1 grocery store with most of what was on my shopping list: a decent variety of real cheeses and butter (Irish, New Zealand and more), tuna, peanut butter, pickles (no relish) and even Honey Nuts cereal.

... was in bed: the hard, traditional mattress, also uncommon in YHA hostels, especially in a private room such as foreigners might stay in. But, as it turned out, it was one of my best night’s sleeps in weeks. That’s a good reason to 'vacation’ occasionally, or frequently. At home one always has a pattern and chores and so many things on the “to do” list. Away from home, one should just be in the moment. So ended my August 13th in ...

... bus. It didn't help that the thunderstorm hit just as I left my apartment. Just in case I put my laptop in a plastic bag. In addition to my manbag, I just have a wheeled carry on suitcase. Inside the suitcase is my insulated bag which in a few days should have some good cheeses and frozen vegetables- to keep the cheese cool. I'll also be stocking up again on peanut butter, tuna and a few other hard to get items (in ...
