Unfortunately, the conductor came around so we had to scatter back to our own seats in the Green car, which is still pretty good. Owen and Takako supplied breakfast as it was too early for the hotel. Here the bus comes every hour and a half and you have to pay a fare each way. There are rice fields near the campus and the woods surround one side of the school. To reach downtown Akita City, we have to take the one bus and one train ride. I ...

... by a drizzly walk to the station to catch our shinkansen up to Akita. To my horror, I manage to pour half the contents of my water bottle over the old lady sitting next to me who spends the next 3 hours looking as though I mortally insulted her family. Another great leap in Japanese-Gaijin relations!

We spent our full day in Akita exploring Lake Tazawa. ...
