Solomon Islands - scratched off the list!
After spending 6 weeks in the Solomons Islands, we weren't sure whether we were excited or not to return to New Zealand. We had left during the onslaught of winter – as drastic a winter as you can get on the top of the south island. It was the perfect time to get away.

... the edgy of a rocky beach, sea spray would often fall on our dining table. Service is slow as everything is cooked fresh to order. However, as we are now on Solomon Time we had no need to rush!
Once again dinner at the Yacht Club was very much an expat affair. However, with half price beers, excellent spring rolls and island dancing and singing it was a fun evening.

Day of Remembrance
... spoke the bishop of Guadalcanal gave the convocation and the band, made up of Royal Solomon Island Police, played both the American and Solomon Island national anthems. Following the bishop was Paul Berg, deputy minister working at the embassy in Port Moresby. After leaving Hill 66 we went o the ravine where Chesty Puller's marines massacred 960 Japanese soldiers caught by surprise while filling their canteens. After here we continued to drive up the coastline, stopping at a beach to eat lunch. The beach had the wreck of a Japanese transport ship offshore on about 25 feet of water. Apparently ...
