... the most famous panda reserve in China, and therefore the world, and the reason most people visit Chengdu. It’s still early so it’s not busy as we head in. Sadly, the pandas mostly seem to be asleep, though we do see a few awakening in their houses, looking like big bundles of fur! We continue on and see a couple more – mother and suckling cub, but they’re at a bit of a distance. A few members of the group – including Linda ...

... or other and rebuilt. The temple grounds are quite large and it was easy to spend an hour wandering the many hidden little halls and garden paths, pausing to take in the magnificent statues of Buddha in his various incarnations. I even stumbled across a group of monks enjoying a game of ping pong in a secluded courtyard. It’s a lush little oasis in the middle of an otherwise bustling city where the smell of incense permeates the air as people go about their prayer.
