... their ID badges to the navy ones. Jim also brought a ton of Yao Ming basketball cards and the everyone loves them. At one point I actually used the t-shirts he was handing out to negotiate a lower price of something he was buying. You have to barter to buy everything in these markets. A lot of times they will start out with a price that is $50 or $60 and you can talk them down to $5. It can be fun and ...
Beijing, Beijing, China james.forester... City is located in the middle of Beijing. From the outside, you can see the wall and the corners which are elaborately decorated. This is truly a sight to behold.

We certainly didn't see many Americans here. The young Chinese children all want to have their picture taken with us. We feel like celebrities. I can explain each of these sights better when I have pics.

I understand that if you see "The Last Emperor" you ...

Beijing, China happysheepAfter four hours of sleep I gave in to my alarm and got up at 8 in the morning to go to the Beijing Sightseeing Bus Centre near Tiananmen Square and catch a bus to the Great Wall at Badaling. My Chinese friends had been right about the weather as it was pouring down with rain. But because I'm a tough cookie this did not put me off going on the tour, especially as I didn't want to hang around Beijing for much longer. The Beijing Sightseeing Bus Centre ...
Beijing, China caro86... Backpackers Accommodation, again. I found a miserable pedicab near Qianmen, but the driver didn't know where the hostel was. So I couldn't help navigating him in the area I didn't know well. As a result, we were lost and the driver gave up taking me to the hostel. Actually, we passed by the hostel, but I didn't realize it because it was still closed. So it didn't take me long to find the hostel. I don't remember how many people joined the tour, maybe about 10 people joined ...
Beijing, China misocutlet... scream at each other, and then suddenly an old woman who doesn't seem to have any to do with the situation at all, starts screaming at the both of them. Now the taxi drivers include her in there screaming....a few nasty words at each other and then a couple at the old woman. Quite a stirring piece, although it does lose something in translation. Off to breakfast... Later I stop in at the neighborhood grocery store to find the next performance ...
Beijing, China mulzey... we climb the Great Wall, visit a Jade Factory and ride through the Hutong District in pedicabs. We enjoy Peking Duck for dinner. On the third day, we visit the historic Temple of Heaven, built in 1421. After a stop at the pearl store, there is a boat ride and walking the grounds of the Summer Palace. Our weather in Beijing varied from pouring rain to cloudy, polluted skies. The visibility at the Summer Palace is very bad.
Beijing, China joycekeith... over the outskirts of the city. But we did get to see the Kremlin, Red Square, and St. Basil's Cathedral, all of which were such a pleasure to finally see...all those history book pictures coming to life. We visited Moscow State University where we met up with a group of Russian students our age, who showed us around and hung out with us for the next few days. After that, it was off to the trans-siberian ...
