No.28 Binxi Road Datong, Shanxi, China, 037008, 0352-5866655
In less than an hour of flight from Beijing we arrived in Datong. Datong is a city of 3 million inhabitants, important for its coalmines and therefore a polluted city, but it is famous above all for the Yungang Grottoes (literally "Cloud Ridge Caves"), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In airport we met our likeable guide, Joan and the driver with a minibus for us. The first stop has been at the Hanging Monastery (Xuankong Sė), about 70 km from Datong. This monastery clinging to the cliff side, h...

... 14/10
I took the bus to the Hanging Monaster: it goes around the city to pick passengers until it is full, then it goes 65k.m in 2 hours just to the city near the mnaster, then you need a taxi! If you don't enjoy such things - don't go to this place. The small city is really China, as there are only few foreign tourists there(like Karni & I). The others came in organized tours, with air-conditioned buses, look for an hour in the ...

Hengshan to him. This did not go over well with Luke nor should it have: it was clearly a scam. Another example of gouge the tourist and with me being there, the price of the scam increased. The taxi driver was putting on a well animated show. He was screaming and jumping up and down ...

Zajeli jsme asi 25km za mesto na buddhisticke skalni chramy a pak probehly centrum plne vsudypritomneho prachu - opravdu zazitek. Nakonec jsme meli co delat abychom stihli autobus na Wutaishan.
Datong, Shanxi, China blummo... Oba ...
Datong, Shanxi, China masovy_kasparek... the station to a place I think was called the Lantern where it was all quite decadent and looked a bit upmarket for us now we're backpackers, but once we browsed the menu we found a couple of dishes that took our fancy. We ordered dumplings, shredded pork with beans and Spicy Noodles which was enough to feed an army, with a couple of beers the grand total came to 50 yuan (about a fiver). Heading to Pingyao tomorrow morning by bus and it's an early start so off to bed.

Jiang seemed very used to visitors who have traveled afar, he easily let us call it a day without insisting on taking us to a diner. We all went to bed early and felt we were back home again.
Datong, Shanxi, China pdjw... actually found the part of the wall they had actually started rebuilding. As the sun began setting my stomach woke from its happy sleep with a ferocious appetite and as I was searching for something to eat I came across a restaurant called YH Fast Food and thought hey, I'm hungry and it promises fast so why not. What a great choice it was. My noodles were totally awesome and ...
Datong, China eddakath... With a unique octagon structure in each tier, and a special designed lightning top, the pagoda can still stand firmly and remains intact. It continues to reveal its exquisite quality in a rustic, simple manner, despite the long exposure to the elements, violent earthquakes and intense thunderbolt. The wind bells hung under each eave add more interest to this wooden ...
