Arrived at a very dull, overcast, damp port of Volos (Volos olives are
apparently famous) in the north of Greece but it didn't rain on us so
that was a blessing. The city sits on flat land at the base of Mt
Pelion almost 5100 feet high in a region known as Thessaly. Pelion
was the legendary home of the Centaurs and Jason, the Argonauts and
the Golden Fleece etc. On our excursion we visited the
Archaeological Museum and ...
... thing here. It is a big fishing town, so there were lots of fishing boats and guys trying to sell their fish. We walked down to a little church and walked around in it, and then through the shopping area, which was more like a really bad garage sale. The weather wasn't helping it was cool, damp, and rainy. We decided pretty much the only thing to do was to eat and drink are way through the town. So we started at a little cafe and had coffee, donuts, ...
... a pic taken with him, then at dinner all 8 were there tonight good company. We all went along to the Theatre to see a comedian Roy Walker, very good, then Lorraine and I had a night cap in the Commodore lounge.
13 Aug. This morning we docked at 7.45am in Volos on mainland Greece, temp now 25C rising to 35C by noon. After breakfast we boarded our coach at 9am for our tour of 2 greek villages. Our lady guide, Basila was very informative but a bit too much on Greek mythology ...
... looked a bit young which is exactly why Phil dragged her by the arm into,the bar. Of course she had forgotten that while the rest of us get older Phil stays young . It turned out to be a great night as we drank and solved the problems of the world with our young new Greek friends. The alarm the next morning, abruptly reminding us of our run was most unwelcome. After not a great night of sleep ... A large breakfast, much needed for Parker. Taxi comes in a few to take us to airport. Another Ryan Air flight. Up and down no problems... Off we go to Rothenburg! Ends up being a wonderful evening! A quick stop at a beergarden for a couple beers and a traditional dish of potato noodles with saurcrout , bacon bits and gravy. A nice wall around town, Old Town Historic Walk, Night Watchman's Tour, Walk the Wall .... Off to bed in down comforters and ...
