      We were awoken today by a knock at the door... It was half 8 so we should have been up anyway. Showered and dressed we headed down for breakfast and the weather outside was grim. Mum was so excited for a proper breakfast. We have been just munching the odd croissant here and there or doing without. But no, this morning, mum wanted a proper breakfast. I only had toast and dad had eggs Benedict. It came to a whopping $50!!! ...

      ... we enjoyed our burgers and shakes in the sun!
      We headed back to the Capitol as we had Senate public gallery passes, so watched Senate in session for 30-40 minutes. With 100 Senators (2 per U.S. State), we expected the Senate to be buzzing - however there were ever only 2-3 Senators in the room, as Senators spend 80% of their time 'off the floor' - very interesting, but not quite as exciting as expected.

      Once at the Cemetery we caught the tour of the grounds. What a beautiful cemetery. We saw J.F. Kennedy's grave,along with other members of the Kennedy clan, the changing of the guard ceremony, Arlington House where Robert E. Lee lived. This is a beautiful area.       ... downtown going straight to look at the White House, which I thought was quite small and a little underwhelming. Today is 35 degrees c plus and there is absolutely no wind so it was a very bad day to walk around the Washington monuments and memorials for 4 hours but that is still what I did.
