    Day 39 Just when you thought it was safe!

    ... the oil leak and unscrewed drainage plug . So I thought!!

    As I came into Lincoln and changed down in gears the noise coming from the bike in 5th down to 2nd gear was almost deafening. Only 1st and 6th were free of noise.

    Whilst I am no mechanic, I stopped, got out the operating manual and checked the oil levels.

    Engine oil OK - Transmission Oil - ?? non-existent - did not show anything on the dipstick.

    ... huge conservation project of the Midewin Tallgrass Prairie), In Wilmington we saw the Gemini Giant, at the now closed Launchpad Inn.; From there we travelled through to Braidwood, home of the Polkadot Drive In, which had a number of statues, including Elvis welcoming everyone in, Blues Brothers for the order takers, and more on the other side of the building, which I forgot to photograph...     ... next barge pushed a loaded barge also 3 boats wide, to join the first one.

    Okay it's not everyone's cup of tea, but we got fascinated by ships and locks 40+ years ago when we went to the UK by ship via the Panama Canal.
    Then while in the UK we went on a couple of Canal boat holidays and again we had fun entering the locks but they're a lot smaller so one physically opened and shut ...

    ... local Amish businesses. They are very well known for their wooden hand crafted furniture. There is also one if the largest garage door manufacturers in town which originally was started by one Amish man. We were taken by the school and told there was about 30 students across grades 1 to 8 with two teachers and a teacher aide or two. Children do not go to school after grade 8. Some Amish children are home schooled and others are sent to the local ...
