First Full Day in Chicago

I woke after eight hours of straight sleep in the best bed ever.I hadn't had eight hours of sleep let alone straight sleep in ages. And did I mention the bed?? I got up and had some brekky (gotta love free food) and planned the day ahead. I had only one mission - to find an adapter for my devices.

I headed out and knew of only one shop. Radio Shack. I'd already searched one so I mapped out the other three in the Loop as well as a Best Buy in the area. I headed out and started with the ...

Tourist Day

Today was my seventh day in the US; I couldn't believe it was going so fast yet it felt so long too. I hadn't done a lot of tourist things so far and the weather was getting better so anything I was going to do outside had to be done today. And that meant being a true tourist!

The day started off like the others with brekky downstairs before heading to Chicago River for a boat cruise. I couldn't decide between an architecture cruise or heading out to Lake Machigan for skyline view so w...

Not So Tourist Day

Thursday Thursday Thursday in The Windy City and I was nearing the end of my journey. I had just completed a week in the country and had such an awesome time already yet it was time to start thinking about getting home. I had a busy day ahead of me Friday so today was my shopping day.

I decided to try the Untouchables Tour that a guy from my segway tour suggested the day before. I rocked up just on time, boarded the bus and off we went. The bus was really old which fit tthe scene and t...

My Final Full Day

Another day waking up in my awesome bed. And it was my second last morning. Bugger. Even worse was I had a full day ahead of me and had not checked the whole packing situation the day before, sooooo, I was gonna be busy. Off downstairs then for the usual start then upstairs for the packing.

I was dreading this part as I knew I had too many things, had bought more the day before AND had to fit Mark's suit and Kym's dress in my suitcase. I did a dummy run and low and behold, it all fit. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews of Homewood Suites Chicago Downtown

Warm, Wonderful, Excellent!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in the downtown Chicago Homewood Suites in August of 2003. It was so lovely. Gorgeous indoor pool on upper floor, allows you to view the city up close from a birds eye vantage. All glass enclosed it was beautiful, especially at night. The lobby had round the clock coffee, tea, and refreshments, very classy decor, homey with style. rooms were comfortable, and useful, nice kitchen area. staff was top notch friendly, and made us feel special. Doormen were exceptional at giving directions, and flagging taxis. The light suppers, and breakfasts were above and beyond what I could have expected for variety, quality, and service. Well put together!!. This place was great!

Homewood Suites: good choice; great price

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our family of 4 stayed at the Homewood Suites for 2 nights during Christmas week 2003. For the low price of $98, it was a very good value. With two teenagers, the living area was a bit small, but staff was very helpful, full hot breakfast was great, and a roll-away at no charge was a bonus. Location was very convenient. One disappointment was no hot tub alongside a small pool.

Love this hotel!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I love the location,it is ideal with my young boys in that ESPN zone shares the building. It is directly across from Nordstroms. The breakfast is plentiful. There is a full kitchen and coffee in the lobby. We are very comfortable and clean. I would highly recommend.

Great For Business Travelers

from A TripAdvisor Member
I travel frequently on business to Chicago and this is the best value Hilton property downtown. The hotel is located at Grand and Wabash - 1-1/2 blocks to Michigan Ave.

The rate includes a great breakfast buffet and light evening meal.

There is a pool and exercise room on-site and HHonors Silver/Gold/Elite members receive free access to the Crunch Fitness Center located RIGHT next door. The staff has ALWAYS been very helpful and curteous.

The rooms have always been clean and well-maintained. They have a full-sized refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, and stovetop. I agree the separate living room and bedroom are not huge, but they are very adequate.

The only current drawback is that they do not have High-Speed Internet access in the rooms, but they tell me they should have it by the end of the year or early 2004.

Stay there!!! Great location, great rooms, great price!!!

Homewood suites...like being at home!

from HoosierDeb
7 of us women went to Chicago from November 16th through the 20th. We shared 3 suites. If you want awesome views, kind and friendly staff, and so much more, then you must stay here. Breakfast was included. The Hotel is across the street from Nordstrom's, and a short walk from the magnificent mile. Our rate was great. I can't say enough about this hotel. Ask for (corner) suite 1318, 1418, 1518 etc. to have the best views. I suggest you pick up the most recent issue of "Chicago Magazine" just before you go or once you are there.

Stayed here twice

from Canton,MI
We have stayed here twice and will do it again. We got a suite with 2 beds/with pull-out couch and put 4 adults and 2 kids into it. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary buffet breakfasts and light dinners (M-Th) and have planned our trips accordingly. What better deal than to feed 6 people, 2 meals a day + room in downtown Chicago? We sampled the wonderful local restaurants at lunchtime instead of the pricier dinnertimes. The pool has a magnificent view of the city. The location is 1 mile from Navy Pier, 1 mile to the theater district, and right off of Michigan Ave. so we walked everywhere. Parking is expensive, so consider your alternatives if you are staying here.

Very satisfied with Homewood

from A TripAdvisor Member
August 2003. My family of four recently spent 5 nights at the Homewood Suites in Chicago. We felt like the amenities matched the price. We wanted a complimentary breakfast (this is the best we had ever experienced) and a pool. The pool was small but adequate. The rooms are advertised as suites, there is a door between the living room and bedroom. But, both are small. The pixs in the ad make them look much larger. Once the sofa bed is pulled out, there is no room to walk in the living room and you can not see the TV. But overall it was a good stay, room very clean and great location. The Mon.- Fri. evening reception was excellent and an extra bonus.

What a deal!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in the hotel for a long weekend with our family of 5 and were very pleased with our accomodations. We got a rate of $119 a night and this includes complimentary breakfast and a light dinner! The suite was clean and included a full kitchen. The space was large enough for our large family! Look on the ... website for the best rates. The value is excellent.

Aequate but clean

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel was okay. Clean and convenient but nothing special. Pricey compared other alternatives in downtown Chicago.

Bait and Switch tactics at Chicago Homewood Suites

from A TripAdvisor Member
Travelers, beware! This Homewood Suites pulled a bait and switch on me when I called to make my reservations. The central reservations office quoted me an competitive rate when I called to book a room, but the rate magically and substantialy increased when the automated attendant repeated my trip information back to me! A simple mistake that could have been rectified, had only this hotel cared. Instead, they did absolutely nothing, except run me in circles and ultimately insinuate that I dreamed up the originally quoted rate. Given the customer-service approach other hotels in Chicago are known for, I definitely recommend looking elsewhere to make your travel arrangements.
