Friendly, well positioned but needs an update

An apart-hotel well situated for everywhere, and staffed by friendly helpful folks but in need of some colour and a makeover. Decked out in shades of dull green and drab brown it badly needs some chic. And some better equipment in the kitchen - it claims fully equipped but it was spartan. Fully adequate and well run though.

... Wow, Chicago's skyscrapers took my breath away and with the contrast of the fantastic 18th century style bridges. The first skyscraper was built here when Chicago was re-built after the Great Fire of 1871. A lot of land was reclaimed from the lake when ...

... our exploration of the many exhibits with one titled Underground Adventure - we were 'shrunk' by curved mirrors as we walked into the exhibit, and learnt all about bugs and how food decomposes to return nutrients to the soil. From there we went to visit Sue, the world's most complete Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton, and other permanent and temporary displays. We learnt about the great white shark in a 3D movie theatre (Yvonne swears she was ...

... about 2 hours (which we haven't been told...). This resulted in a complete 0.00$ tip for a table of 5 people. We basically lost our afternoon in Chicago. However, Maris joined and the evening came closer. Downtown life was to be enjoyed, walk along the waterfront, the bean,... typical Chicago stuff as we could find little special things about Independence Day. Previously mentioned tents were set up for a celebration scheduled a week later - big disappointment. A concert was ...
