Who knew I'd enjoy Montgomery, AL as much as I did...
It all began when we pulled into our hotel. I've come to expect a very standard room by now, but when we got to our floor and opened the door, I was pleasantly greeted by a really nice room. They had recently renovated the hotel, and clearly hired some sort of Feng Shui decorator. I loved it. Everything was crisp and clean, but with warm touches ...
... tour. We saw a historical movie, his study, a mural (that we weren't allowed to photograph) and the pulpit where he preached from. While it felt a bit irreverent, we were welcomed to stand at his pulpit and look out over the pews, as he once did. Wow....what a chill went up my spine when I stood there, put my hands on the sides of the podium, and looked out.
Next, we went over to the Southern Poverty Law Center and looked ...
... and field and past the caretakers home we finally arrive at the farm to the braying of Beau, the donkey. Four or five dogs have joined in chasing us with welcoming barks and a great wagging of tails. Young and Suzy call them by name and discuss their health and well being as they drive along to "Glen Thistle".
The farm is Young’s dream home......open and spacious and ready for fun. There are three bedrooms downstairs with a sleeping room dormitory style upstairs. As Andy and I ...

Andy and I didn’t even go back to Gunter Hill one night but spent the night in Crazy Fish right on Marney’s road after a long and fun day discovering the history of Montgomery(another entry), having another delicious dinner of a mixed greens soup and a curried sweet potato soup while meeting the friends for a rousing good time. There is simply so much more to do and learn that we must come back and spend more time with cousin Marney. .
I dropped Luba off at the Savannah airport this morning at 5am. It was hard to see her off. We had the best time ever.
I had taken all side roads today all the way from Savannah. Traveled almost 600 miles before stopping for the day. I rode mostly on US 80 the entire day. I love riding on two lane roads. Its a great way to see the country side.
Stopped in Montgomery, Al. It just will not stop raining. Need a break. Waiting for the weather to ...
... her to willingly join us in the water. So that meant I had to pull her in. This was not an easy task and she scurried out as quickly as she could.
In the afternoon, my cousin Frankie saddled up some of the horses and Alex got to go for a little ride. Then there was more swimming and even time to hold one of Uncle D's new baby ducks...a father's day gift from his daughters.
We had a very peaceful and relaxing visit and can't wait to go back again.
... Oreo cookie and cream cheese balls dipped in chocolate...decadence. While Jackie was cooking, we walked down to the barn so Alex could help feed the horses. Tori & Bella were very intrigued with these new creatures and weren't quite sure how to approach them. It was a funny site.
... to fall forward exposing emptiness behind. Immediately post leaving the town square is ghetto. It was late and weird. We cross the Chattahoochee at Eufaula into Alabama and (passing Batesville which Ted says is the home to Norman Bates' hotel from Psycho) continued on to the State capital Montgomery where, after waking the nice lady manager out of deep slumber, we found a near empty field/RV park. Day 27, May 29th We arranged a ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tednims... highway at Atlanta to look for somewhere to eat only to see lots of men standing either in small groups or on their own beside the road. It would appear they were probably waiting for someone such as construction workers to come a long and offer them a job for the day. It was actually quite sad to see so many looking for work that way with little hope of actually getting anything, especially considering it was quite late in the day.
Montgomery, Alabama, United States glover_family... and secrets there is shame buried not far down. The birthplace of the Confederate states, the birthplace of the civil rights movement, where the Klan have ridden with impunity and a Governor has stood on schoolhouse steps and pumped his fist and proclaimed segregation to the sky. The confederate battle flag still flies proudly and brazenly, and there are black people still living in tiny two-room homes down by the railyards where the trains whistle and carriages collide. The ...
