We must be crazy leaving Florida this morning, (this great state of Florida) Slowly making our way back to Kentucky. As we leave Pensacola Florida we are driving to Cherokee Campground in Helena, Alabama. Should be there late this afternoon. Not liking the coldness I feel in the air as we approach I-65. Haven't traveled this highway since August.
Spent a restful night in the forest at Cherokee ...
... and horseback riding. It's a great place for a cookout with family and friends.
There are some seriously good barbeque restaurants in the Birmingham area! One of my favorites is called Dreamland Bar-B-Que. For a long time, the only food on the menu was barbeque ribs and white bread! Now you can order BBQ sandwiches, side dishes, and banana pudding there too.
We have now covered 258 miles together! That's 415.2 kilometers.
This is a nice hotel but it's close to the bottom of my list of favorite overnights. It's not in a very good area and there isn't anything around the hotel. And they say "don't go wandering around" so I don't. I bring my own food with me in a lunch cooler so I don't need to go anywhere. We weren't there very long anyway, got in about 7:00 pm and left at 6:30 ...

... is always fun getting the tour from Andrew. I waited with Andrew and Christina for awhile before I headed into security and it was good I did, since all three of us were like choking back tears watching a military dad leave his family of adult children and seeing how much it affected them. It was so sad watching it and seeing them upset when he left, especially the boys. It was very bittersweet to watch.
