        Day of Driving

So today was a looooooooooooooong day of driving for us. We lazed around all morning and slowly got ourselves ready because I don't think anyone was excited about a 300 mile drive from the Bay Area to Bakersfield, California. The central part of California is extremely dry and barren, I don't think we were expecting that. There were some farms and it was interesting to see the contrast of deep ...

        We meet the Pacific Ocean!

... Bakersfield alone (Good thing we have maps and sat Nav!). On the way back I pass this great expanse of nodding donkey machines extracting oil from the ground. They went on for as far as the eye could see - no wonder petrol is so cheap here!

Very dark, hot and humid when I got to the hotel. Shower, meal and bed to get ready for another exciting day, which I think might be a bit more heat in Death ...

3:45 a.m. arrives fairly quickly, but we're up and ready to go. Our scheduled taxi arrives and takes us directly and quickly to the airport. We have made a command decision to check our bags for the flights home not wanting the hassle on the way back. Check-in runs smoothly; we are a good two hours ahead of our flight which is on time. We have a very short layover in Frankfurt. It ...

Airport Security that Isn't So Secure

A travel blog entry by miss.chris on Mar 15, 2012

        ... at all.

I got to the airport about 3 hours early and actually hoped that I could catch the earlier flight so that I could pick up some Starbucks. I had the check-in email sent to my phone so that I could use it instead of the usual check-in at a kiosk or counter. Since no one was at the counter I mentioned to the representative that I’d check in at security but asked about catching the earlier flight. ...
