... to the Koontz residence, we put our laundry in the dryer, and went to the grocery store for some staples for our beachfront room. Dayna opted out of the beach visit for a little personal time, and the Goodners, Jim, and Alice went to the beach. Before we went, we got to choose beach paraphernalia in the Koontz garage, and it felt like Christmas: we got boogie boards, beach chairs, a waterproof football, and a float to enjoy during our stay. We all enjoyed ...
and I second that. When I moved to California my first residence was San Diego. But I digress.
After leaving Flagstaff we strayed from Route 66. I would say to really see all that Route 66 has to offer, at least four weeks should be allowed. That is, if you are going to do the entire route from downtown Chicago ...
Sadly on April 13, we departed Hawaii for Ensenada, Mexico. Five sea days passed by in a fog of sunning, playing bridge, being entertained by comedians and singing pianist. We joined many others for Family Feud and Liars Club. The funniest words were defined in an attempt to trick the audience. Some of the word were tittup, hoarsehole,

Kidding, Mom and Dad!). I know my address, though I have no idea where it’s actually located in the grand scheme of things. And I know the language, vaguely, from many years of Mexican-Spanish learned in high school. Not that that’s gonna help me much, because apparently ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Homewood Suites San Diego - Del Mar
Stayed here for 3 nights as a base for San Diego. Very new hotel, biased toward the business traveller, but ideal for families. We had a 2-bedroom suite, one room with a king and one with 2 queens. The room was top quality, and very clean - no mean feat given its size. The buffet breakfast was exceptional - the only gripe would be that they need more waffle makers! The pool & hot tub were very welcome. Staff was excellent (and mostly quite young!) with a true appreciation of customer service. The hotel is about 30 mins from Sea World and 40 mins from the Zoo. Would definitely recommend for families with children as well as business travellers.
We have previously stayed in a Homewood Suites in the Orlando area near Disney World and decided to give this location a try. We stayed here for 3 nights. The rooms here are smaller than the FL ones, but nevertheless more spacious than most typical hotel rooms. It's always nice to have a full kitchen and separate living room from the bedroom area. The hotel was clean and staff was friendly. The location is on the outskirts of the city, but in a very nice area, and just a short drive on the freeway to the inner city or Sea World. It is very close to LaJolla beach. Getting to the hotel from I5 is a little bit of a work around, but not difficult after you have done it once. It's a short drive to a shopping center that has restaurants and movie theaters. The breakfasts were very good and the entrees changed somewhat each day. I would agree with some other reviewers, that noise did travel through the walls somewhat. I could hear a woman next door coughing in the middle of the night, although the noise is not unbearable by any means. The hotel grounds itself are very quiet. An ice machine was only available on the first floor near the check-in desk, and none were available to my knowledge, on the upper floors. A little pricey, but so are most of the hotels in San Diego any more. Unfortunately, I think the hotels in this area are getting a little too agressive on their pricing. I would consider staying here again, although I would also consider renting a beach house with friends or family since the difference in cost, when divided up, would be comparable.
My wife, 3 yr old, and myself stayed here for a few nights in July 2006. we liked the hotel very much. The common areas as wella s the hotel itself were very clean and welcoming. There was a great AM breakfast served every morning. Thye only possible criticism here is that they close the serving area exactly at the cut off time (varies by day of the week). So, if you go back for another bowl of cereal or muffin, and it's even a minute past the end time you are out of luck. There was also a reception that includes a free dinner buffet every Mon-Thu. We had some excellent chinese food and a nice poolisde bbq too while visiting. The room itslef was clean and comfortable. We had a full kitchen with all teh dishes u could ever need. Full fridge too... very nice, clean and ready to use. Free parking was a plus, as well as the fact that we could part just a few spaces from teh door to our room. We were on the 3rd floor, and did hear a few people walking on the floor above us. If you are a very light sleeper then beware. We were ok once we dozedoff. Also, you may hear doors closing down the hall from other rooms,a s the doors are heavy and hte walkways get lots of traffic in teh mornings. Overall I loved it. By the way, I used a great wervice that I only heard about from another guest... they will do your grocery shopping too. Just tell em what u need, and they will shop and delvier to you, and bill to your room. Who knew!. We loved it, and would stay again (but we would ask for the 4th floor next time!). Enjoy San Diego in style with a stay at the wonderful Homewood Suites Sand Diego. PS- it was 15 minutes to Sea World, and 20 to the S.D. Zoo... and only 5 minutes to the BEACH!
The Homewood Suites in Del Mar is a terrific hotel! It is in a great San Diego location in beautiful Del Mar and conveniently close to I-5 which takes you to most of the major tourist attractions. The price was competitive with other area hotels. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Our queen suite was beautifully decorated and clean, had a full kitchen, a comfortable bed with many throw pillows and a down comforter, and a pull out bed in the couch (which we never used). The room was cleaned promptly each day by the housekeeping staff and the rest of the hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The pool area was small but nice and clean as well. The food service was especially impressive. Upon check-in, the hotel staff brings you a "Welcome Home" gift bag full of snacks. The continental breakfast each day is probably the best I've had at a hotel with the traditional cereals, fruits, and muffins but also belgian waffles, eggs, bacon, and potatoes each day. We were additionally surprised by the complimentary DINNER served to guests on Mondays through Thursdays on the patio. The hotel provides you with a monthly menu and the dinners are things like barbecue, spaghetti, beef stew, etc. Also, beer and wine are complimentary for guests at these dinners. What a great value for a family on vacation! There is also the equivalent of a full convenient store in the hotel which was very useful. As I said, this was a fantastic hotel that I would definitely stay in again as well as in other cities. You can't go wrong here!
I loved this hotel. Everyone is very friendly. Service is excellent. We had a 2 bedroom suite and it was huge - three seperate, full size rooms in all.
We just spent 6 days at the Homewood Suites in San Diego /Del mar. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The hotel was very clean and maintained. Housekeeping did a great job. The hotel had a new interior since the hotel was recently built.
Stayed at the Homewood Suites, a new hotel that is billed as catering to the business traveler. The hotel is NOT located in Del Mar; it is located in Torrey Hills, a business park area in the Carmel Valley vicinity. You will NOT be near the beach, shopping, supermarkets, gas stations, etc. It is NOT an easy on/easy off from I5; It is a maze-like route through concrete barrier construction near I805 before you even reach the left turn for Sorrento Valley Road. It is a good-sized 2 room suite with a comfortable bed, full refrigerator, 2 burner cooktop, full size microwave, small food prep area and table seating. The bathroom is smaller than most with the only sink located outside the bathroom in a vanity alcove. My biggest complaint is the THIN walls. You can hear when occupants of other rooms are walking, talking, using the shower, running the water, flushing the toilet. This is extremely annoying but typical of the new construction these days. You can also hear the cars and trucks traveling on the road. The road is not extremely busy, but the noise is well heard nonetheless. If you stay here, get a room on the top floor (then you'll be the one clomping around and annoying those beneath you, but at least you won't hear anyone except those on the left and right of you) and not facing the roadway (so you won't have the road noise). The buffet breakfast was typical with a few hot items added. Not the best, but not the worst and if you are a business traveler and keeping typical business hours then you probably won't hear the other occupants as you'll already be up and making similar noises yourself. I don't recommend for leisure travelers or beach-goers.
Homewood Suites Rocks!
I loved this hotel..
The rooms were very beautiful and large. The breakfast was magnificent and the hotel is located at a prime location. The service is excellent and quick. The entire propery itself is also very beautiful.
Homewood Suites Del Mar is well worth the money.
We stayed at the Homewood Suites in Del Mar for 5 nights from June 4-June 9 and we had some "issues" but the hotel had only been open for 4 days. We were traveling with two children ages 6 and 8 so the location is convenient to all the major attractions such as Legoland and the San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal Park, however it is in a residential/business park so it's very peaceful. The complimentary hot breakfasts and evening reception meals were adequate but nothing exceptional. The beds were very comfortable, with down comforters and nice fluffy pillows. The pool was small but heated and there was a hot tub as well. The Hilton website says it's three miles from Del Mar Beach but it seemed further than that, it would take us around twenty minutes to drive to the beach. I would recommend giving this place a try. We honestly didn't have the best experience but I believe that in time it will be a great place to stay.
