This week has been cloaked with sadness, and we have felt acutely distant from home. My grandad passed away on Thursday. Being so far away, and unable to support and grieve with family is tough. When the heard finally started thinning, some brave cars
pushed through. We followed their path and were on our way after a half hour

... ID to find it was closed for the day. I kid you not; everything appeared to be closed including the gas station. This is where it got interesting!

As I am sitting at the closed gas station, a pickup truck pulls up next to me. The guy and gal in the truck were almost a caricature for the stereotypical redneck couple in a beat up old truck with a dog in the back, both dangling a cigarette from their mouths and speaking in slow drawl. They were nice ...

... have stored in vaults buried inside a stone mountain.
Being an only child with an orphaned mother and paternal grandfather has closed many doors to finding my family history but today I hit paydirt. I knew that my paternal grandmother was born in Strassburg, Germany in 1888 to Michael Tisch and Katherina Hunsinger Tisch. I had checked the ship manifests before looking at passengers leaving from Hamburg, Germany and was ...
