Civil War Museum

... to remember I still need to be able to fit on the plane to go home!!!

We stopped in at Bardstown along the highway to look at the civil war museum and the historic original Bardstown. They'd moved some old bulidings from around the area to the one spot and it was a bit like the Telegraph Station in Alice Springs where you could walk around looking into them and seeing how people used to live.

... frazzeled nerves but othewise safely.

Taylorsville State Park is lovely. The park is very quiet and peaceful. There is not much to do there other than walk trails but the park itself is very pretty. They have 30amp service and water but no sewers. The lots are nicely spaced and it was not crowded. The bathrooms were immaculate and the staff was very friendly and courteous.

We stayed until Tuesday and next stop is Bowling Green, KY.

Adeus amigos!

... Not sure how I'm going to fill the rest of my time. I guess I'll find something to do.

Fly out of the Azores on Thursday night (9/17), have an overnight in Lisbon, and get home Friday night.

I hope to post some updates and pics every night. Should be posted no later than 7 pm EST every night unless I'm out to the wee hours of the am.

River City Mocha

A short walk from the hotel lead us to the Louisville Convention Center and my first Kentucky Starbucks. I made it a mocha since it doubled as my breakfast. I asked the barista if they carried city mugs and he replied with a slight southern tang, "Nope. Small market."

Right.

... s. He built an actual hotel in 1835 that was visited and praised by Charles Dickens, Jefferson Davis and 3 presidents. According to my informational magazine in the hotel (the one I'm reading in the photo...) army guys Sherman and Grant plotted a battle together in the hotel. That hotel burned to the ground and was replaced in 1869, only to be torn down in 1921. Al J ...

Preparing for the Trip

With two 8 hour days of work remaining before our trip I find it increasingly hard to focus and stay on task...there are still a couple of loose ends to tie up before leaving and I find myself obsessing about them while working. I've made most of my miscellaneous purchases. But I still have to put together our travel binder and figure out how to combine my clothes and personal items into one small carry-on piece of ...

The vacation continues on the drive home

Babs and I got started around 7:30 ET. I had planned a route through West Virginia because I have never been to West Virginia. The drive out of OBX took us back the same route we came in on until we got to Virginia. We crossed the Chesapeake Bay by a different bridge/tunnel. This one had only two lanes going in the same direction so there was more room for the Denali. Virginia is a pretty state but WV was spectacular!

I had planned a stop at ...

Bernheim Forest

Oh the wonders of nature and nature-stream restoration projects I volunteer on. Bernheim offers an abundance of programs for schools and families that educate and allow you to help conserve some nature!

Also, this park has many, many hiking trails. Yay hiking! We all know how much I love that. :)

... cloak on something along the bank of the pond. He tried to pull it loose, but it was stuck fast. When he reached back to unhook himself from whatever had snagged him, he felt the cold, clammy flesh of a baby's arm. In a flash of lightning he turned around and saw a baby's arm, caked with pond scum, emerging from the water and holding onto his robe. He stumbled back and screamed, managing to yank himself free in the process but also slipping and falling face first in the mud. He turned ...
