That evening we went to see the kites wired with lights and flying in convoys (some of them) the others very large and shining with colorful lights.     ... carved jade, sculptures of classic heroes and Buddhas, household decorations, calligraphy and paintings. We were photographed with artists and public officials and interviewed by the media! Fan Yan, who met Spencer last year in Lexington, gave me a kite and a small clay tiger for Spencer.
    Then back to the kite festival with the local C Party Secretary for a few hours in a crowded field of families flying kites, eating picnics, many vendors but no competitions ...

    ... James' unfortunate cold, our troop hasn't faced any other hardships thus far. Joey is one of those “I'm allergic to the world” people, but that doesn't seem to be too much of a big deal. Though I do think that by the end of the trip I will be all out of bless yous! Speaking of bless you, I've learned that the Chinese don't have an equivalent for that phrase....just a fun fact.
