In Chinese they talk about buildings that collapse because they have "toufu foundations". Charlie went inside the monkey house. "It's no good living in caution," she muttered. Cuts also went inside. There were old shoes and toilet paper and bits of rubbish everywhere. Cutty thought about the old fortress in Ceuta and Charlie wished for the invincibility of youth.

It seems like only yesterday we were arriving, each one of us following the other off the bus in a single file line like elephants in a sand storm holding one another's tails. He is commissioned by people who cannot afford the real thing to make an exact replica for them to have at a slightly cheaper price (which isn't really cheap for someone like me). He also makes some more modern pieces, with a "creamy" porcelain instead of a cool white. They are very pretty.
