Werewolf, Der Wolf, Der Castle

We started the day with a boat tour up the Neckar River to Neckarsteinach where there are four castles over-looking the river and town (by the way have I said how much I love boat tours). This was supposed to be 'a three hour tour... a three hour tour.' I started getting a little concerned when I heard the first mate being called Gilliganou, but I …

Today was primarily set as a travel day because it was going to take us over 5 hours to get from Ghent to Heidelberg. Since it was a travel day I was not expecting there to be too much to write about. But we are the Johnsons and where we go strange things happen. We started out at the Ghent St Pieters station with a goal to catch the 9:04 train to …

Heidelberg is one of Eurpose's top tourist locations and it doesn't take long to see why.

Situated in the mountain foothills as the Neckar River flows toward the Rhine, Heidelberg has been a university town since 1386 and has a decidedly youthful population.

We had our first unpleasant travel experience en route to Heidelberg. We …

Had a great day today. After a lovely breakfast and a walk to the local lake and around the local area we loaded into the cars and drove into Speyer. This is another lovely old town. We walked down the main square to the Cathederal. It took 100 years to build the original part of the church to ground level, then another 300 years to complete the church as it is today. It is now 1000 years old ...

Day in Karlsruhe

A travel blog entry by fosboss_17

Today we woke up and had another good breakfast of fresh picked cherries. Then we had to say goodbye to Elisabeth because she was going on a business trip. Raphael then drove Tim and I to Karlsruhe. We were playing at the Konzerthaus in Karlsruhe. It was a very magnificent place and many famous orchestras had played there as well. After rehearsal Raphael picked Tim and I back up and drove us home. We then again went to the lake and played some football. Jürgen also got Tim and I ...

    Location Can't be Beat

If there's a better location for tourists in Heidleberg someone will need to tell me where it is. The hotel is right next to the Old Bridge and the 35 bus stops right out front. We arrived early and the staff held our luggage till our room was ready. We returned later and the bags were in the room. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Internet good. My wife loved the towel warmer. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here on Christmas night and were delighted to find a Christmas basket in our room when we checked in. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable, and the location cannot get any better!

    Tolles Hotel in toller Lage

100% NOT a 1* hotel as per Tripadvisor rating!!! A 3* at least!

We arrived in Heidelberg in the pouring rain, decided that we liked what we could see through the constant rain and went into a internet cafe and found a deal for this hotel for 2 nights (Monday and Tuesday). Five minutes after booking through priceline, we walked into the hotel lobby, expecting to be told that the room was not ready yet. The lady on reception confirmed that she had received fax booking just that moment and we were given room key straight away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Lobby very nice and not shabby.

Nice hotel, but beware of first floor rooms during the summer...

Our family of three stayed at the Hollander Hof during the World Cup in June. The good: Prime location at the Alte Bridge, very friendly and professional staff, room was large even by American standards, room was clean, bathroom was modern, clean and well done (no "yuck" factor at all), small fridge and mini bar with reasonably priced items. There is a small store right next door, so you could get water, soda, etc and keep it in the fridge. Hotel also has wi-fi (2.50 Euro per hour). Breakfast was included in our package and was excellent in quality and choices. Cold cereals, fruits, cheeses, eggs, sausages, and fantastic fresh breads.  Great coffee - really got you going in the morning. The room did have safe.

Great location, good room for family with young kids

We stayed at the Hollander Hof for 3 nights. We booked a quad room for our family (2 adults, 2 young teens). We arrived about 9:30 am and were expecting to store our luggage and walk around and have lunch until our room was ready. So, we were quite surprised to find that our room was ready upon our arrival. Great help to weary (and sick) travellers!

    Great hotel in great location

I had no reservaion and arrived at 10pm for one night in mid August 2005. Our accomodations for our family of four was one large quad room with two twins and one double bed with shower for 135 euro ($167) per night. We got a price break because of late arrival which did not include a breakfast which was available for an extra charge. We opted to get breakfast at very good pastry/coffee shop one block away on square. The pictures of rooms do not do them justice, the double bed shown was in an alcove, adjoining room with twins was much bigger. The room was very comfortable. The hotel is about 200 years old but very nice. Our room had modern conviences such as TV, phone, with an elevator available.

    Fabulous Hotel and Location

This hotel is a superb property located adjacent to the bridge and everything else. The rooms are as spacious as they get in Heidelberg, modern, and very clean. Again, the location can't be beat, near everything!...Inclusive breakfast was well above standard, and dining in and around the hotel was fantastic. I will be staying here again in August of 05, just an incredible place...

    Great hotel

Stayed at this hotel in February 2005. The location was superb, right on the alte bridge and 5 minutes walk to the church and main shopping strip. The staff were also friendly and helpful. The room was clean and very large, with comfortable bedding. The bathroom was clean with a superb shower! Overall, this hotel comes very highly recommended.

    Great Old Town Location

We had a most enjoyable 2 nights stay in June 2004. This hotel is located right next to the Old Bridge and river in the heart of old Heidelberg. Literally a 1-2 minute walk to churches, restaurants, bars and all the great old buildings.

The service and staff were excellent. Ask for room 124 which is large and has 3 big windows overlooking the Old Bridge and Neckar River.

(Quad rate 6/04 was 172 EUR). I would definitely stay there again.

The famous castle is worth the long climb and is fascinating day or evening. The Philosophers Walk across the Bridge (right outside our hotel) provides a panoramic view back over the city, river and castle.

    Fantastic Service and Location

I was a student in Heidelberg and know this city extremely well. Business and pleasure have brought me back to the city of my youth many, many times. I have stayed in a number of hotels in Heidelberg but keep coming back to this one. What more can I say but the service is truly outstanding. The multilingual staff goes out of their way to insure your stay in Heidelberg whether for business or pleasure is a happy one.
