... control recently has broken down, this was the perfect sign to follow, where I planed to cross the border to Switzerland.

Just arrived in late afternoon to Aosta, I was not only already entered to the italian part of the alps but also to the point of good bye. Here I decided not to spend another night in Italy and crossed the border to my homecountry Switzerland a hour later at Calle del Gran San Bernardo.

BIENVENUE EN SUISSE - WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND
Liddes, Valais, Switzerland pajas... the casualties of the Matterhorn.
Zermatt itself is tiny, with only electric taxis. It is much colder than Lauterbrunnen even though it's on the border of Italy.
Switzerland is strange. It has no language of its own. In Bern, Lauterbrunnen and Zermatt they speak German but in Montreux they speak French, even the train announcements change languages. It gets confusing, so I just stick to greeting people in English most of the time. When I had arrived here I was fuming a bit because I ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tonkin... maybe having to climb back up. We mapped out our short path and planned two more stops before the sign.

After a total of half an hour climbing this wretched mountain we eventually made it to the signs. Seriously, we are both well accustomed to walking up hills by now and we both needed to stop every 20 metres or so on this walk! It was horrible!

At the top we found mountain goats. That really made me think that maybe we were going to wrong way.

We ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kimmykak... So I was keeping an eye open for a policeman, and spotted a whole police station( or should I say Carabinieri)!! There must be one in there, we thought. And it's definitely worth stopping. We got a place to park (probably not very legal, but we were following the Italian rules of the road by now), grabbed our Landy Rally T shirts, and went on the hunt for points. It lookead bit locked up, but as we poked around the gate, a couple of people came ...
Aosta, Aosta Valley, Italy dirtyweekenders... nights, our hotel is right in the middle of town, the whole town is car free and you just get around on little electric golf cart type taxis.

Our trip today is up to the very top of the mountain on a cog railway, up into the clouds and snow; we dressed appropriately and had a great time. This whole area is a ski field in the winter but you can still go skiing in summer if you continue up on a cable car.
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland neveroldWe woke "late" (8am) and were the last to leave our bunk. Skipping breakfast, we began our 5 hour journey back to Zermatt. We chose a route that would give us a different view of the valley, but involved 1800m of decent. We paid for it for the next few days. We arrived at our apartment and ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kramertown... long ago. So, you would assume it wouldn't be that big of a deal. However, most of the undergrads that go to this campus are EXTREMELY "privileged." They seem to have endless amounts of money to blow on whatever they want and act like there is no one else in the world. That being said, we got on the train at 2:00pm, and by, oh, I don't know, 2:02pm, they were slamming mixed drinks and screaming at the top of ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland beccaboyerWell... today didn't start off as early as we wanted it to be for a couple of reasons. One, we had one too many beers at the local pub in town. We just couldn't get away from the vibe and the new friends we met while putting back a few pints. Second, we set the alarm on our phones but neglected to change time zones... oops! We started off our day and were off to the ...
Zermatt, Switzerland rv121... most famous mountains (cue appropriate music) THE MATTERHORN. The events unfold. With 40 other trainees we set out one lovely Saturday morning, right about tea time, for Zermatt. As we drew closer to our destination the excitement in our little train carriages began to mount. People were straining out of windows trying to guess which mountain was THE MATTERHORN ...
